imo, he's butthurt that Landeskog was named captain. That's what my Avs friend buddy at school is suggesting. He posts here on HF.

I think that plays into it, but there are rumors that they were close to a deal in the summer and then suddenly everything went awry. Speculation is that the Avs may have said something that rubbed ROR's side the wrong way and they haven't been able to make amends.

Why do you assume he is actually holding out for money and not because he doesn't like Colorado?

Any one else disappointed we didn't make a pitch for Semin? I realize he's not a "Torts" player, but apparently he's really been good for Eric Staal and the dude has a hell of a shot. I'd love to have him on our PP and just set him up with his shot. Although I think he's going to re-sign with Carolina, I would enjoy Semin on our team. He's also apparently made his 2-way game a lot better as well.

This certainly makes a lot of sense from both parties' perspective. To me, it comes down to:

1) Is ROR really asking for crazy money? If so, Slats says no.
2) Does Colorado think they can get the Rangers to add more to MDZ? If so, Slats says no.
3) Does Slats think that the team simply needs time to gel after all the turnover? If so, Slats says no.

BUT, if all those are answered in the negative, then the deal does make sense based purely on value and both organizations' needs.

I will say, the more I see of Richards, the more I'm in favor of the move. I was already thinking that it may be a good idea to buy him out NEXT summer based purely on his contract and age, but if you've got a solid, young top 6 replacement available NOW, maybe it accelerates everything.

When I think about adding the final piece to a cup contender, I don't envision shipping off two homegrown kids and a top prospect, then following it up by adding several UFA's in the summer. What cup contender turns over 1/3rd of it's roster over in the year since it came so close to a cup final? It's really odd.

Yeah I agree. I don't think I've ever seen Stepan carry the puck into the zone. He'll have no one around him and still dump it in.

Can't wait for Stepan to knock the puck off a defender's stick in the D zone, be on a breakaway and dump and change

I'm glad we made a lot of changes. The Rangers probably overachieved in a Cinderella season and ended up playing razor thin playoff series against the Sens an Caps, arguably got outplayed by both. NJ just schooled them. Resting on their laurels would have pissed me off. The Rangers made the ECF in a weird year with a lot of upsets (good on them for not being upset), I don't know if they're an ECF team most years. They were barely an ECF team last year.

There are trades like this all the time. Teams look and see 40+ points from a 22 year old defenseman with a ton of hits. Playoff experience. top-4 minutes.

We have the ability to watch him every game.

Boyler, I appreciate your insights most of the time, even though you seemingly want to acquire every available player that isnt currently in an NYR jersey. But I think the comments above encapsulates that approach pretty well. When you watch somebody play every single game, it makes it much easier to take their performance for granted and focus on the flaws in their game. Those things that "teams look and see" are real. Ryan O'Reilly = Patrice Bergeron is not.

Its a more educated and better presented argument on your part, but at its heart, its still really just a form of shiny new toy syndrome.

The Rangers can re-sign their group IIIs for 2014 starting on July 1. Lundqvist,Callahan,Girardi,etc. The cap can't drop below $64.3M. It could increase depending upon how the business comes back over the next 14 months.

Such Compliance Buy-Out(s) would be effectuated on the same terms as are set forth in Paragraph 13 of the SPC, except that the amounts paid under such “buy-out(s)†will not be charged against the Club’s Cap in any of the years in which the payments are made to the Player. Amounts paid under such Compliance Buy-Out(s) will, however, be counted against the Players’ Share during any League Year in which the “buy-out†payments are made. A Player that has been bought out under these Compliance Buy-Out provisions shall be prohibited from re-joining the Club that bought him out (via re-signing, Assignment, Waiver claim or otherwise) for the duration of the 2013/14 League Year (if the Player was bought out in 2013) and the 2014/15 League Year (if the Player was bought out in 2014).

Serious question, if the Avs gave Slats a choice between including MDZ or McIlrath, would anyone prefer McIlrath included? I know that probably won't happen as the Avs want a roster player it seems.

Love DZ, I just think that moving him for ROR would be the best move for this org going forward. He's young and can grow with the team. We need that going forward. If there was ANY way we could get out of trading DZ for him, I'd be for it.

Minnesota is an ideal target for me IMO.

They have an abundance of prospects, and are probably pressured to win now to sell tix. No bigger way to make a big splash then receive the team's first ever draft pick and 40g scorer on a team deprived of goal scoring.

THat trade was warranted return.. Mike was a proven player and the captain for phi so that was a great return for them, very risky but in the long run will be a great investment..

however ROR maybe on his way to similar talent as mike but i think i might be down to trade MDZ for him straight up, would help the club big time, just don't want to keep trading core guys that were groomed here... I want to build a team and let them grow..

also I love gab as well, an amazing talent ofcourse but he doesn't fit the mold of this team and is one dimentional.. i would try to trade for picks and prospects as well, and a lot of teams would line up for his services..

O'Reilly is the type of player that ANY coach would love, and he's the type of player that would fit into any system. He's tough as nails, great defensively, and is actually very talented offensively. He's probably not going to be a PPG player, but consistent 55-70 point production from him is fairly likely, IMO, while adding Selke caliber defensive player. He'd improve our team offensively, defensively, and on the PK.

I like Brian Boyle, but he gets caught out of position against the Crosbys, Malkins, Girouxs, and Tavareseees of this league because he is a weak skater. O'Reilly is a solid skater, and can keep up with these guys in the defensive zone. He's the center version of Callahan.

I only worry that if they move DZ they will regret it, he's the only offensive Dman we have ............Barrie could turn into a good one if they get him but he's an unkown..........Elliott is too..............I think they need to get 2 Dmen back from Colorado if this is too happen. offer them Boyle, Eminger, prospect like Thomas

Still not sure its a good idea to move DZ if it happens. Would feel alot better with a rental like Gonchar brought in too
