We're allowed to say what we want. He's asking for way to much, pretty much a known fact at this point. We shouldn't resign him for that.

But to criticize the guy on a personal level is a little absurd, considering I don't know most people on this planet who don't push for as much as they can get when it comes to money and a job.

He's doing what most of us do, it's just in a public view and detrimental to a team we love. Is he asking for to much, probably and from the Rangers, certainly.

Who are we to expect him to take a discount though. If another company offered me more money, I'm leaving my company in a heartbeat, no matter how much I love it, especially when we're talking about millions of dollars.

Just want to add in another thing. I don't really want cally even at 5 over 6. I just don't think he's good enough or durable enough to warrant that kind of investment. I think we can find better ways to spend that money.

So wait we can't say he didn't look interested, or he looked distracted because thats insulting him on a personal level.

Next message you say he's not good enough to warrant that kind of investment, hmmm

Same here... I'd raise him $500K.

Agreed. I don't want the Rangers to re-sign Cally for what he is asking but he is certainly allowed to ask and see if he can find a team to meet his asking price on July 1. Fans always take these negotiations too personally, it happened with Dubinsky, Stepan, amongst others, and now Callahan.

He didn't personally criticize him at all.

Neither is saying that he didn't look interested, or that he was distracted. Thats a judgement, mind you most of the team didn't look like they really wanted to be there but that is immaterial if we are talking about his Callahan's contract, we aren't talking about others

Oh ok, didn't read enough.

Bottom line:

Callahan has every right to ask for what he wants.

Fans have every right to criticize the guy asking for the moon when he's playing mediocre hockey. Especially since indirectly he's hurting his trade value and the Rangers.

FYI people also have the right to criticize this and any other opinion.

No one's saying we can't. Some people talk tough, like they're authorities, screw that. The player doesn't deserve it... I'll take it a step further and say NO PROFESSIONAL ATHLETES DESERVE 1/3 WHAT THE MAKE. But... don't hate the player, hate The Game... problem is, we like the game. :P

Besides, while criticizing people calling Callahan out for his mediocre play is something you're entitled to as your opinion, my personal opinion is you don't have a leg to stand on if you do. If the guy asked for the moon and played his ass off this season like he did against Colorado, at least we could trade him to a team that is looking for a guy with playoff experience that can play a good energy game and score offensively. However, he's asking for the moon and playing like **** this season. He basically put the Rangers in the worst possible position. They have an overpriced player on their hands. His value is in the toilet. So no, criticizing his play and contract demands is not out of bounds. Both have put the Rangers in the tough position of having to let him walk for nothing. High pay demands, low reward, why would anyone trade anything of worth for him? At least the high pay demands are not something you can fault him for, his mediocre hockey while still being employed by the New York Rangers IS something you can fault him for.

But yeah, the opinion that you're classless if you criticize his play is equally as valid as any opinion. :shakehead

Funny I like that...

I agree with you on the Pro Athlete thing tho

How valuable is the 1st overall?

Let's say the Rangers sought to move up to the top 3 range--what would be the cost?

A lot, see the thing is it depends on who was available like for the McDavid, Echiel draft its gonna be super expensive to move up.

Well, I figure it would be expensive, but any ballpark estimate? Say we wanted to take the initiative and draft a guy like Reinhart or Bennett.

Stepan + high prospect + our first expensive? Or more?
