You mean like the leverage Yzerman can use by simply waiting until next Thursday before realistically considering a trade?

Ive got problems with Sather, but at the very least, I can be happy knowing his reply to Yzerman would be something like:

"C'mon Stevie, you know I cant do that" followed by a counter-offer, instead of

"OMG Steve, are you ****ing drunk??? No way!!" (slams phone, calls Calgary about Glencross).

Being a captain doesn't automatically make you this valuable. Callahan is a good player, but this isn't Bryce Salvador we're talking about.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA! :laugh: :handclap: Everyone who suits up for the Devils is a star, you should know this by now. :D

I am.

It still makes people look stupid when complaining about Tampa asking for another roster player.

St. Louis won the Art Ross last season. He has 56 points in 58 games this season. He is signed for next season at a bargain price of $5M. $5.625M cap. Yzerman should request for Stepan or Kreider to be in the deal. Callahan is of no use to Tampa beyond this season. People on this board want top value for a rental the Rangers can't or refuse to sign a player but are up in arms when Yzerman wants value back for his player. Two way street. If the Rangers were the team trading St.Louis,it would be a different view.

I understand that Sather doesn't want to budge. But if it's $500K a year or something like that of a difference between the Rangers and G, just pay the man. I mean, good on Sather in this. I like that Sather does this. Hardballs his players. But sometimes, it's okay to open up the wallet a bit more.

And you think about it. G and Cally have been here a long time. They've seen Sather open the floodgates to guys like Gomez, Drury, Redden, and Richards. Cally and G figure they have paid their dues and have earned that money from the team, also. And I know this is a point that others have made, but it continues to resonate. Especially in G's case, where the team and player don't seem to be too far off.

Pay G, trade Cally. Let's do this.

Stepan or Kreider? I see Dreger is doing some negotiating on behalf of his butt buddy Yzerman. Wasn't he doing the same crap with Toronto earlier this season?

Brooks spot on here. What was Sather doing? Being old?

The Rangers and Girardi have been believed “close†to an agreement for a couple of weeks, but talks the last few days seem to have hit a roadblock.
The first-pair right defenseman, who will turn 30 toward the end of April and has played the seventh-most minutes in the NHL since the start of the 2009-10 season, is believed to have been seeking a six-year deal worth approximately $5.5 million per.
That’s a deal that Rangers GM Glen Sather should have leaped at when the negotiations started in late November/early December

Well nobody was talking about adding *****, you said that ***** said that we need to add ******. Which one is it? ***** or ******? I think you're just making things up.

Ya know, if we had just drafted *********** in 2003 instead of **********, and drafted ********** instead of ********* in 2006, and drafted ********** instead of ********* in 2010, we wouldn't need to make any trades right now. :naughty:

Funny Kenjets you mentioned maybe Anaheim wasn't after Girardi, and maybe the package was around Stralman instead, pending Girardi getting resigned. Everyone saw Boomer say Vatanen on Twitter and instantly assumed it was going to be for Girardi.

A few Tweets later people said:

BrianNY79 ‏@Brian79Ny 17h
@TheNYRBlog @7BOOMERESIASON Gonna take a little more to get Girardi then Sami Vatanen, no?

Kevin ‏@TheNYRBlog 17h
@Brian79Ny @7BOOMERESIASON I'd assume a first round pick would be thrown in there as well.

His response:

Boomer Esiason ‏@7BOOMERESIASON 17h
@TheNYRBlog @Brian79Ny stop assuming

Maybe he meant in general? Boomer never said it would be Girardi going.

Just throwin' it out there.

Also:

John P. Zsoldos ‏@john_zsoldos 1h
@NY_Sports_Fan00 @RangersTownUSA @NationRangers @AdamTrent17 @7BOOMERESIASON hey Booms, no St Louis yet! ???????

Boomer Esiason ‏@7BOOMERESIASON 43m
@john_zsoldos @NY_Sports_Fan00 @RangersTownUSA @NationRangers @AdamTrent17 patience is a virtue

Boomer is still sold on this going down, despite doubt starting to set in.

I would add a pick to Stralman/Klein for Vatanen, lock up G, and absolutely love the defense.

Doubt the Ducks go for that though. And by doubt I mean they don't.

Being Sather, he never jumps at a deal. He always gets out the iron maiden.

With restricted free agents, thats fine - in fact, even preferred.

With pending UFA? He risks the ability of market realities crushing him. Thats what might happen with Girardi.

Callahan I dont really care about because his demands have been out of whack since the beginning.

Boom. Agreed. Called negotiating.

Lots of people don't seem to have the patience for it around here.

Negotiations, whether it be for a trade or a contract, seem to send sports fans into a tizzy. We've endured this time and time again, yet on this board and elsewhere there are always fans who fail to understand that negotiations are not a one-sided affair and are shocked by the demands of the other party.

Totally agree, he has to pick his battles, but the ego is very big and hard to see around.

Since the information came out Callahan and his agent haven't moved off of their asking price since the summer/fall I truly believe he never intended to try and re-sign with the Rangers. Glen knew it too.

@Dagoon44 28s
Hearing minor rangers trade coming

@Dagoon44 1m
The only thing given to you in life is self pride .. don't let anyone take it

I don't think this speculation holds much water, but just in case:

I can't be the only one who would rather trade Stralman than Klein, right? :dunno:

Probably not, but I don't think that validates that preference any more than if you were alone.

You've been shooting down a rumor that maybe 5% of posters put any stock into after hearing the rest of the story. Literally the only one mentioning that anymore is you.

Ha, good point. He's been kicking that dead horse for days now, when no one has been talking about it. Like, get over it. That conversation is dead. I don't know why he's still harping on it.

You guys are, like, so over that from 3 days ago when you believed it.

Sather is simply making Girardi sweat a little. Doubt Girardi wants to be uprooted and moved away from his wife and kid for the next few months. My only problem with Sather is that he plays hardball with his own players, but not with shiny UFA toys.
