Have a bad feeling both will be gone. Team doesn't seem to care about keeping the bottom 6 together and loves to bring in new bodies every year instead of maintaining some stability.

Buyout Richards, replace Moore with Miller, replace Boyle with Fast/Lindberg/Borque, extend everyone else (maybe replace Pouliot with Fast/Kristo).

Gives us 6ish to get a 2nd line center.

Kreider Stepan Nash
Hagelin XXXX St. Louis
Pouliot Brassard Zuccarello
Borque/Lindberg/Miller Dorsett
(1 of above as extra?)

Same D and Lundqvist

Moore or Boyle has to stay. You need veteran leadership in your bottom 6. They are two very key components to our PK, face offs, and end of game situations. I'd prefer to keep both TBH.

Don't worry, we'll sign a goon and a washed up face-off specialist to offset it!

The thing I fear is that some team -- all it takes is one -- (i) sees Boyle as a 3rd line C, (ii) need / want size, and decides to give him market price for a player that fits those criterias. And I mean, what is market price for a big 3rd line C on the UFA market? 10m over 4 years? More than that?

I am not saying that will happen, what do I know, but I fear that situation. And IF it happens, we can't go into to a bidding war for a 4th lineer.

Dreger claims that Carolina will deal Ward, and could deal Skinner/E.Staal in the summer.

If Marc Staal doesn't sign, you could try to get Skinner for him.
Or, flipping the script, NY could try to get Eric Staal, possibly for Nash.

In either case, I would be shopping Nash. Not a fan. This team needs to be revamped. up front. Keep Stepan, MZA, Kreider and MSL. Hagelin looks to be a keeper. The rest, meh...

Swapping Nash for E. Staal would be a tremendous move. Doubt Nash will waive his NMC to go to Carolina though. I think we're stuck with him at least until his NMC drops to a NTC.

Will Carcillo still be a Ranger next season?

I think he should be. Low cost, has been more than steady for us.

On Nash, he has been so frustrating at times. I am just not ready to give up on him.

I don't see Marc Staal going anywhere. And any deal involving E.Staal would most certainly need to include Derek Stepan.

A 4th line of rookies is an absolute disaster

I would be okay with a couple of rookies if they are going to actually use the 4th line 8-10 minutes a game. Bourque, Hrivik, Miller, Lindberg, Kristo, Fast, Haggerty. They have some players who I see as relatively close. Time to give a few of them a shot.

July 5 Rangers sign Chris Thorburn. he is a goon and UFA and i can see Rangers trying to add size and of course they will get size but they will also get a player that cant do much else :help:

Rangers need to not only target players with skill but grit size and and emotion could be helpful to this non emotional team...

i say trade Dorsett for an extra pick or 2 at draft..
trade Rick Nash for E.Kane
resign Carcillo
sign Steve Downie

Right now, our 4th line starts only 20% of their shifts in the offensive zone, allowing the top lines to get mostly offensive zone time.

If we replace them with kids, that's not gonna happen, and would mess with the whole team

An all rookie fourth line next year....:shakehead

That 4th line would get destroyed by big, physical, fore-checking fourth lines. And you realize we only get last change half of the games right? So expect that "rookie 4th line" to be on the ice against opponents first and second lines every single away game we play.

Not to mention you are taking away basically all of the grit and feistiness from what is already a team well below average in physicality, and in losing Boyle and Moore, you're also getting rid of two of our best face-off men and defensive specialists.

Would you trade Stepan for Staal?

When Staal plays like he's capable of he's an elite center.

What would Carolina want for him?

What do you think his value is? Brassard, J Moore and a pick/prospect get it done? Probably not.

They won't want Nash. I wouldn't move Kreider, McD, MSL, Girardi , Stepan, Staal. Who else could go? Hags? Miller?

Brassard and John Moore? Seriously? He's a 6'4" #1C, I would trade anyone except McDonagh for him.

If we can land Staal for a reasonable price, we should. I wouldn't trade Stepan though, I think that would somewhat defeat the purpose. Unless we want Brassard at 2C?

Hey just spit balling here. I really don't want to lose Stepan. If rather keep him as the 2c. Center depth is filthy if Staal and Stepan are 1/2.

How about Hagelin, Brassard, Miller and prospect or pick? Trying to gauge what the value is. You can say you'd trade anyone but McD for him but that doesn't really move the discussion forward.
