I honestly feel like Callahan would've been signed already if he was going to be. Tomorrow will be interesting.

9:21PM: The Rangers, as of Tuesday night, were not any closer to striking a deal with Callahan than they were Tuesday morning. (NY Post)

Time to do what the Yankees did with Cano and just move on.

Sather has spoken with the Oilers about Hemsky but the Rangers are reluctant to give up the second round pick Edmonton is seeking.*(NY Post)

If rangers need a emergency defenseman for depth just grab Cory Potter off waivers .. Right handed shot steady nothing great but free..

Corey Potter stinks. He's 30 now. He's not the same, #7, steady guy he was with us.

I'd rather just use Allen or Falk if something happened. Both are better.

We are now 10 hours past the self imposed deadline. Hopefully a good sign.

I truly thought we were 5 minutes from signing him at 3pm today when all those tweets got flooded out.

Holding out hope here.

I think all those tweets were just the Rangers showing they are trying and it's Callahan who is being stubborn.

Waste of a roster spot. Rather call up Allen, HFD aren't going anywhere anyway.

Also, my gut feeling now is that we'll let Callahan walk in the summer.

The Rangers are usually really mum on things. Who knows what slipped out. I'd be shocked if it was purposely done.

We're past the point of people thinking Callahan is a saint. Everyone knows he's asking for too much.

The Rangers can either look stupid or smart now, there's really no in between. A contract to him means we are the same old Rangers, trading him would mean the issues of the past may have been curbed and that we are turning over a new leaf.

Lots of good, young talent on this team. Can't even fathom how i'll feel if we lock him up for 6 years at 6 mil. Such a disaster blehhhh

so is msl to rangers basically dead?, ive heard nothing the last few days about msl to the rangers

Today was all for show. It becomes obvious all this 'talks all day" crap was just that, as neither side moved an inch. Duh.

It's in the Rangers' interest to have the appearance they are still contemplating & negotiating with Callahan.
That's why they strategically placed their final offer right where he wont accept. Cally's not going to 'cave' $3m worth on a take it or leave it offer. And if he did, the Rangers still stated their objections on a NMC (and if ever there was a time to do so!), so there's too much to overcome. That 'one phonecall can change everything' is more pablum thrown out there for appearances.
They've had a thousand calls for 6 months and they're not there.
Sather's negotiated a zillion contracts. if he wanted this one done, it would be.

Cally already feels he's gone too low, the Rangers (rightly, IMO) feel they've gone way too high, and he's outta here.
Think that was all determined some time ago; which is why Sather likely has deals in his pocket.
And if teams feel they have to up their offer to prevent you signing him, its an edge for the NYR.

They head into tomorrow with an easy 3-4 serious packages they can move and totally bolster the team, should they decide. or, they can nibble. One thing that's working against them a bit is it being such a buyers' market. Man there's a lot of good players available.
But it only takes one team to make a trade.
Or 3 to make 3 trades LOL.

What town in Suffolk are you residing in? Such advanced thoughts.

I also have a feeling MSL will be on this team ...

anyone think that the Rangers are waiting to see if maybe they have put in a claim for Conacher and trade Callahan for future picks and a prospect???

Conacher Callahan replacement..

Cory Conacher is on waivers...Rangers interested?

Can't see it. He's more of the same. Small, middle six forward. Still has potential though, surprised he was waived. Assumed it was Ottawa getting ready for a move but they didn't make one.

As for MSL, I believe that is completely dead and he isn't going anywhere. In the summer it will likely be revisited. Although they just had an awful road trip and he looked very upset at the end of tonight's game. If he presses Yzerman tonight, I guess anything is possible.

Conacher is gritty..in a Theo Fleury kind of way.

I could totally see Erik Cole being a Ranger tomorrow. Like a pick and B-tier prospect going the other way. Call me crazy :propeller :propeller :propeller :propeller :propeller

god no i dont want that washed up veteran, sather isnt that stupid

Hey gang, I haven't posted in this thread, but I have been following.

I am with the majority of the group here in not wanting Callahan at the terms that have been reported. He was much more valuable to us under Torts, just don't feel he fits AV's system here for the amount he is asking for. I was nervous that the papers would be signed mid afternoon today, but was happy to see no agreement was made.

With that said, I feel we have been just to quiet. We are closer right now to being out of the playoffs then we are to being legit contenders. That just doesn't seem like something that sits well with Sather. I won't make any predictions on who we will get, but I feel Sather got one or two deals up his sleeve for tomorrow. So should be an exciting day.

As for the rest of the league, this has been a great deadline eve and should be just as good tomorrow, still some big names out there. Unless I missed a team or player saying they are out of the sweepstakes, this is my prediction for a few destinations tomorrow...
Vanek: Bruins
Moulson: Kings
Kesler: Penguins
And I am hoping to see Gaborik traded to Ducks.

Cole isn't washed up. He's not the dominant force he is, but he can help with physicality and puck possession. I'm not saying give up anything great to get him. I'm not saying give up anything even good to get him. But he can help with the size. If that's all they do and trade Cally and Boyle, and claim Conacher, I can live with that.
