I'm not sure what you're trying to say.

My point is the "just get something for him" argument is flawed. There is value to keeping him for a playoff run. If that value is greater than what's being offered, then I'm not sure there's reason to deal him.

so many people are so afraid to let him go for nothing.. with the ""its better to get something than nothing" thinking.. The Rangers letting him go and not signing him is basically trading him for 6M of cap space to replace said player with in the off season.

But thats if you think we can win now

Exactly. Either find a good trade in the next 19 hours, or ride out the season and replace him next year. No need for a cap-crippling contract.

Yea true

Fleury is a very talented goalie who's made it to the Finals twice. He get's his head out of his ass, BOS-PIT ECF.

Those Penguins teams were much much better defensively than the current team. Fleury would look just as good if he were behind them again.

You are 100% correct. The funny thing is that even the talking heads on tv and the web have forgotten that it's only the teams that won't or can't spend in free agency who "let a player walk for nothing."

Therein lies the problem... we've watched many games this season, where we NEEDED the captain of 2011-12, and he didn't show up... we've seen many games where everyone played above their heads, EXCEPT Callahan... this guy was NEVER a big difference-maker, and will not put us over the top now, and certainly not at 35... but... one upgrade won't do it either.

Call me a pessimist, but this team has a snowball's chance in hell of winning the Cup as of now.

this is the most realistic way to look at this situation. Get something for him. I don't care about his worth in a so called "run" for the cup.

Fleury suffers from what we in the goalie industry call "long-term memory".

Me neither because we're not poised for one, with or without... I do think he'd be a big part of a cup contending team though.

The GM seems to think that's always the case.

Maybe there's value in keeping him for a playoff run and then dealing him after the season to a team that's wants that exclusive window leading up to 7/1.

I agree. I dont think its worth making a half-assed deal just to get rid of Callahan. Just like I dont support a half-assed long-term contract for him.

I'd say I cant believe that the situation has gotten to this point, but I can.

the next thread should be called the Sather does nothing thread.. because that is what Sather will do to improve this team, nothing.. this soft team is gonna do much in the playoffs..

Anyone else get the feeling that the flyers are going "all in"?

It is in their DNA. Just say the word Ranger and they would cut off their arm to inflict a hang nail. If the Pens are involved they would gladly lose a hand. If both teams are involved it could be suicide! :handclap:
