Sorry. Habs gonna need some experience, weight and muscle to support Caufield, Suzuki, Farrell, Roy, Wright (?). Of course, they can grab DesLauriers on the UFA market or get a part time goon like Imama or Olivier. Murray is expensive and mediocre.

Is Dadonov as good as Tatar ?

No. He's much slower, and he's 65-35 in Offensive/Defensive zone starts. Basically, don't play him in defensive end.

Wouldn't mind picking up Keegan Kolesar from Vegas if we can. He can play center & RW. Tough kid.

I think you have very good options this year on the FA market, and it *should* be a buyer's market (plus I'm not too stressed with Kent negotiating). Nischushkin, Marchment, Palat, R Smith, Niederreiter, Mikheyev are all guys who are not necessarily as good as Anderson but could be better than him in completing Suzuki/Caufield or Wright, and cheaper too.

It's a good opportunity to trade Anderson and gain, with many "free" options to replace him.
You would be surprised how much money some of them will ask next July.

Backstrom will be lucky to play again but I expect Caps to still try and contend with Ovi there, DVo for 20th OA - or even better their 2023 first unprotected

So, heard a rumour that we almost trade Petry for James van Riemsdyk ... why would we make such a trade, unless there was something else serious coming our way? We don't seem to need any more forwards, JVM is past his prime, etc. The only advantage is it might clear cap space quicker, but in that case, I would just keep playing Petry under MSL and see if someone is desperate for a D as the season progresses.

If the trade is JVM and a blue chip prospect, or a 1st, then maybe.

Sending Drouin to the AHL might be an option. He could help the offense down there, it reduces the team payroll by 800,000 which in turn opens up a roster spot for Poehling or Pezetta.

Drouin is not going to be sent to the ahl and his contract won't be bought out. Thats just wishful thinking from people who hate Drouin.

Pretty sure that was before they extended Risto that rumor was floating. Unless ellis's career is over Philly already has 11 million I'm top 4 rhd.

So according to D’Amico, the asking price for 2OA is “…an impact NHL roster player, a second rounder and prospect, or if not an impact guy in the NHL, a good player at least, a first round pick and prospect. I know they really want D and a goalie.”

I think Anderson, our 2nd, and one of our d prospects should do it if that’s true

Anderson isn't an "impact NHL roster player"

I would think more Anderson, a 1st, and one of our D prospects - IF this is indeed a true rumor.

The question is, which one of our D prospects would they want: a Guhle, or a Harris, or a Mailloux??

It just seems too low (as in I'm not buying the rumor) unless the prospect is the really good piece. I'd give up a lot to get the #2. But would really have to think about Guhle... it just dependes on how good you think Nemec, etc... will be.

I wouldn't trade any of Romanov, Guhle, Harris or Barron. Anyone else is fair game.

Detroit fans are smoking some good stuff, they think we need to add a first-rounder just to get rid of Petry's contract!

I read the thread and that's not quite what they were saying. What I read from Wings fans is that is what they would want for Petry. As in, Detroit's not a good fit.

you have to give to get. We're talking about the 2nd overall pick. What if you think Nemec is the next Adam Fox - a point per game pp qb?

What if you think Slaf or Cooley are special offensive talents?

So you give away Anderson + late first + Guhle for an unproven prospect we can only dream will have a D+1 season as good as Guhle.

What in the world are you smoking...

2nd is overkill for the price to pay. If I draft Nemec, it would not be with 2. I would draft Cooley, even though I have Wright. BPA always. Deal with redundancy at a position later.

I would consider Barron, would think hard about Harris. Guhle and Romanov are out of the question.

For the price to pay, I'd rather draft Mateychuk or Korchinsky just outside the top 10. I even think one or both could go before 10.

I keep hearing Anderson, Calgary 1st, Edmonton 2nd for the 2OA pick

If they do that my pick would be Slafkovski. Our top 2 lines would be solid with Suzuki Caufield and Wright and Slaf

As stated in the post you're replying to, it depends on one's read on the prospect you'll get at 2nd overall. Sure Guhle had a great D + 1 season. But that doesn't mean there aren't better prospects out there.

I don't know enough about Nemec, etc... to say if it's worth giving up Guhle. But if you know anything about players like Makar that were recently drafted, there is a decision to be made. As I stated, I'm not in a position to make it. But if you don't see that, I want some of what YOU'RE smoking ;)

If it only took that, we'd have the 2nd by now.

These discussions are typical of the internet.

On the Devils forum, there's a poll that asks: would you trade the 2nd overall for Cole Caufield? And 80% of Devils fans say no.
