Byram has 1 year left and is a Darren Ferris client who will be set up to be a free agent at barely turning 27 making him that much more valuable.

Given how Ryan O'Reilly and Marner went for them... Have to imagine there's a memo to not acquire, or draft his clients

Everyone knows that Ferris will bend over the Leafs with that much of leverage. Nobody in their right mind should trade for Byram without a extension in place.

Maybe he's just not good enough to actually defend at an NHL level. After over 200 games he struggles to skate or make basic plays at an NHL level. He has an excellent physical game but that's about his only trait that's NHL quality. In a vacuum his shot is good but he is rarely in a position to take good shots.

Chiarot was and is a significantly better skater than Xhekaj which changes the pathway completely.
Is the skating still fixable, or tweakable, at his age, if he puts his mind to it? I would think that working with Adam Nicholas could have a positive impact. These are not snapshots, they are dynamic scenarios, especially if a player is willing to put in the work.

He did improve his first step and lateral.

X problem is that he still goes headhunting. Every time i see him get draw out of position, i want to get a crate, stand on it and give him a good one on the head.

He has played flawless 10 minutes. He will put a string of them together and for some magic reason, he's benched.

Unless he pisses in Robidas and PeeWee corn flakes, i just can't see the in game issue. It's not like i don't look for it or hold back pointing it out. On the other hand, Struggles does nothing but exist...and plays 16 minutes with Hutson.

This is apparent to anyone watching.

I think Ben Chariot would be a fairly good comparable for Xhekaj to develop into. You are right though, he would need to put in some serious work to improve his skating to reach that level. Arber is 25 now...

Interestingly enough, similar sizes and both from Hamilton, ON.

KH loves the draft. The draft is coming. KH will have a deal for something by the draft.

If he doesn't I'll be very surprised. But it's the one pattern he's shown in his years here. He likes the big draft splash.

It's quiet but that doesn't mean things aren't happening. He struck out/got kinda screwed at the TDL, but I'd be very, very surprised if we get to Saturday next week with absolutely no move made.

I don't think Guhle has really shown signs of breakout offensive potential. I expect he will get better in terms of picking his spots but that's more experience. His development is done as in this is the kind of player he is and will be, he doesnt have some extra dimension to his game.

Not saying he won't get better. He'll hopefully do the same things he already does better.
In the playoffs he produced almost as many points as he did in the regular season in half the number of games. But it's not even a question of offence his defensive and physical game are also likely to continue to develop.

Where the hell are all the trade rumours a week before the draft?Seems awfully quiet.

There's quite a few;

Knies on the market

McTavish

Larkin

Pettersson on the market

Dallas with their Robertson problem refusing 12.5

Raddysh to TOR

SEA willing to throw 10M+ to Tuch

Hellebyuck asking out of WIN

Trocheck changing agent, there's smoke there for a year

Montembeault and EDM

Ristolainen on the market

CHI open to make their 4th OV available ( I assume if SJ or VAN pick Stenberg).

FLA with no real intention of picking

Bob asking for 10M+ for 6years

"The League has completed its review of Mike Babcock's tenure in Columbus, and of certain alleged conduct associated therewith. Our investigation has concluded that, even in a light least favorable to Mr. Babcock, there is no current basis to restrict his employment in the League."

John Carlsson going to the UFA market and looking for an Eastern team

Byram on the market

Nurse asking out

Gallagher, Van being open to take him

Pretty sure i'm forgetting some of them. Woll and Kesselring already traded.

So what changes are you referring to?

What NHL coach completely revamps the way they play in the playoffs?

People keep saying MSL didn't make any adjustments and its just become a buzzword.

It wasn't working against Carolina, I think that rotating a few bodies would have been worth trying.in game four.

Many rookie or sophomore goalies falter. The question is if another rookie goalie is likelier to win points as a deputy or Monty. Monty isn't paid nothing, if he has an interested audience in the NHL it would be because they think he can win points. Who shouldn't he win points for the Habs as a deputy?

As for distraction there really isn't any evidence of such a thing. Dobes has the spot fair and square and it is his to lose. MSL is more than fair in this regard.
Lol you seem to have a very unique definition of what can constitute a distraction. And I already answered the first part.

I don't think there's any reason to be worried about that at this point. They did it with Dobson and I don't see why they'd suddenly start clutching picks. The only trade asset that's really time sensitive is our 2026 1st and that's not going to be the main piece for any big trade anyway.

2C is such a wide range of targets and situational availability, we're talking about a category of players ranging from like top 15ish to top 60ish. I think they want to make the big swing but it'll depend on who's available and the fit instead of forcing a middle range solution to check the box. To me it should either be an obvious stopgap or an obvious long term big fish, the middleground isn't all that interesting to me.

Sure but we can't sign or trade for every single player that becomes available and we're already seeing "sitting on their hands" comments when it's June 18th and the only guy of consequence who's moved yet is Kesselring. Remember a couple summers ago when the board was miserable that we missed out on Teravainen, Bertuzzi, Marchessault, etc?
How about we sign or trade for more than one player in a 12 month period? Since Hughes acquired Dobson and Bolduc, hes acquired Danault.

Kesselring was a perfect player for us and cost nothing to acquire.

A lot of people think a coach making changes is strictly related to swapping out/in players who have zero impact on the game.
A coach making changes is that, but also managing matchups, finding ways to create space, finding ways to beat the forechecking system, the neutral zone system, etc.

MSL(or at least someone in the staff) did that in game 1 and we routed the Canes. We then made zero adjustments and died. Changing bottom line wingers is unimportant and its the only changes hes done.

Kesselring was a healthy scratch for the team that Hughes’ beat on their way to the final four.

You’re just addicted to bitching and moaning
