HF Habs: Trade Proposal Thread 92 Waiting on the DRAFT Edition

  • We sincerely apologize for the extended downtime. Our hosting provider, XenForo Cloud, encountered a major issue with their backup system, which unfortunately resulted in the loss of some critical data from the past year.

    What This Means for You:

    • If you created an account after March 2024, it no longer exists. You will need to sign up again to access the forum.
    • If you registered before March 2024 but changed your email, username, or password in the past year, those changes were lost. You’ll need to update your account details manually once you're logged in.
    • Threads and posts created within the last year have been restored.
    • Our 2025 light and dark themes were lost, so we are rebuilding them. Light theme is currently available, but work in progress

Our team is working with Xenforo Cloud to recover data using backups, sitemaps, and other available resources. We know this is frustrating, and we deeply regret the impact on our community. We are taking steps with Xenforo Cloud to ensure this never happens again. This is work in progress. Thank you for your patience and support as we work through this.

In the meantime, feel free to join our Discord Server
If the team is going in the right direction then why are our underlying numbers so poor? Actually worse than last years underlying numbers.

Again - throughout this year we have gotten severely out chanced and riding a high shooting %. It seems like everyone is conflating a lot of luck with this big step forward. I don’t see it on most nights.
What are you smoking? Since the middle of December this team easily top 10 in nhl. In the large majority of those games I think we have outplayed the opposition.

I swear, we need to acquire Danila Yurov in some way or another. He's had a bit of a down season in the KHL so maybe we'd have a shot.

Yurov's basically everything that we'd need to complement Demidov on a line. He has speed, skill, smarts, some pushback when things get physical, and he'd help Demidov feel less isolated in Montreal as a fellow russian.

But yeah, is it very realistic that we acquire Yurov out of the get-go? No.

Minnesota likely won't trade him.

But I feel that with the seasoning that Yurov has already gotten in the last two years in the KHL that he'd be a good fit with our team as soon as next year.

If I had my way, I'd trade Dach+ (would probably take either ours or Calgary's first) for Yurov.

After which I'd try and sign a stop-gap second-line center and go from there.

And not trading Hage + the other first would still allow us to shore-up our prospect pool. That, or trade some more guys for more proven talent on the defense.

Yeah, liked him in his draft year and thought about him. Injured, but Minnesota think he could be back for the playoffs. Doubt if he’s a winger or center, but i like the russian fellowship

He's going to cost an arm and a leg. He's the number 1 center of the best team in the league.
Yeah they’d be crazy not to run it back with the team they have. Strome, PLD and McMichael down the middle and they are all 27 and younger. They are set.

Plus if they make him available after one season with the production he’s had, it just means he’s a cancer and no team should want him.

Call me masochist but I would try making a play with Dubois again for second line center. I don't think he would cost that much.

With McDavid offered a max contract, 7 years, $20.8 million per season (with a $104 million salary cap).

Caufield (7.85) McDavid (20.8) Demidov (1.0)
Slafkovsky (7.6) Suzuki (7.88) Newhook (2.9)
Dach (3.0) Evans (2.85) Heineman (2.5)
Anderson (5.5) Beck (.853) Kapanen (.925)
Gallagher (6.5)

Guhle (5.55) Carrier (3.75)
Hutson (9.0) Reinbacher (.918)
Xhekaj (2.5) Struble (2.5)
Engstrom (.897)

Fowler (1.0)
Montembeault (3.15)

Total is $99.43 million, so there would be further room for upgrades if needed (possibly on defence). The season after Gallagher and Anderson are gone freeing up another $12 million (and the cap is supposedly going up another $9.5 million) freeing up space to extend Demidov and Reinbacher and adding Hage on a ELC.

While I fully expect Edmonton will extend McDavid this post also shows that Montreal is in good shape cap wise going forward and can add an elite player.
Thanks for doing the exercise I didn’t want to do 😅

I’m not convinced that’s contender year after year but you never know with McJesus.

I still think max contract is too much and won’t happen. I’m expecting it to be around ~16-17M, depending how much Marner will get this summer.

You can look up the stats all you’d like on Natural Stat Trick. From Dec 15th we are below 50% on every possession, xG and chance metric. We are nowhere near top 10 on any underlying number using that very specific timeframe. If we outplayed opposition, why wouldn’t that translate to chances differential?

Don’t know where to post this

A Montreal boy. Might sign with Laval?

Worth a shot. A lot more interesting than Dineen

The somewhat funny thing is he's not even playing better stats wise than he did in Winnipeg.

Has RNH been on the Oilers 3rd line most of this season?

If so I wonder if he'd be potentially available as a trade target. I could see them being very interested in Fowler for obvious reasons. I'd entertain something around Fowler+ for RNH. I know most fans would blow a gasket over that proposal, but goalies are a crap shoot, even prospects that look as promising as Fowler. It wasn't long ago that Primeau was coming off a similarly impressive College run and getting praised as the future in net.
