Pat Maroon says he will retire after the season

  • We sincerely apologize for the extended downtime. Our hosting provider, XenForo Cloud, encountered a major issue with their backup system, which unfortunately resulted in the loss of some critical data from the past year.

    What This Means for You:

    • If you created an account after March 2024, it no longer exists. You will need to sign up again to access the forum.
    • If you registered before March 2024 but changed your email, username, or password in the past year, those changes were lost. You’ll need to update your account details manually once you're logged in.
    • Threads and posts created within the last year have been restored.
    • Our 2025 light and dark themes were lost, so we are rebuilding them. Light theme is currently available, but work in progress

Our team is working with Xenforo Cloud to recover data using backups, sitemaps, and other available resources. We know this is frustrating, and we deeply regret the impact on our community. We are taking steps with Xenforo Cloud to ensure this never happens again. This is work in progress. Thank you for your patience and support as we work through this.

I know if a player had Loading Facebook SDK. You will need to disable any adblocker, privacy extension, or built-in tracking protection to the Caps fanbase I'd be pretty upset too.
I’m pretty drunk so since I can’t answer this message from a practical standpoint I’ll just say I love you and I’m glad you post on here

Ah f***, no! Was hoping he’d keep going! Gods, why do the hockey gods allow such greats to age? I shall surely miss him, as the shores miss the waves when it is low tide. Two things that go together, them. The sea, the shore, and whatshisname and hockey.

He had a couple really good years riding shotgun to McDavid and Draisaitl when they were really early in their career. I've had a soft spot for him ever since.

I'll probably remember Maroon best for leaving so much money on the table to win than anything else. Imagine winning 3 straight Cups and clearing probably something just north of $2 million in take-home cash. That is absolutely insane to me considering that guys who have won the Cup maybe once or not at all are gonna re-write the record book on contracts in a few years

Yeah, his career earnings are ~16.5M.

McDavid is gonna have a bigger cap hit in the 26-27 season than what this guy had in his entire 800 game career total.

I'll always remember Pat for his some of his emotional interviews. Weirdly heartwarming to see a big guy and hockey player like that wear heart on his sleeve.

Good for him for turning his career around and being at peace with the end. Bittersweet when guys like this are going out on a bad team and no playoffs. Though, having been a winner and actually being in the lineup is a solid. Guessing he’s gonna try to get to 100 career fights.

Happy retirement.

Love'em or hate'em, and certainly not the fastest or most talented guy on any team he played for, he nonetheless, was a very key ingredient to the 3 Cup teams he was a part of.

He would take on the other teams' toughest players, deliever thunderous hits...then go to the crease and score the greasy, ugly crease goal....or even find a streaky teammate for a beauty of a rush goal.

He could agitate, cheap shot, and rodent with the very best (or lowest) of them, and always looked out for the up n comers and stars on his own club, preferring to take the heat off them by absorbing it on his own person.

Pretty much a "driver" player.
Emotional driver...physical driver....locker room driver....pain in everyone's arse driver.
Classic "love to hate'em type guy"...ya boo him mercilessly when he plays for the opposition, cheer him to no end when he plays for yours.

Only 36 years old, but the game seemingly has now truly passed him by, and he no longer seems to have the same heart he needs to be an effective NHL'er, but that is ok.

He has earned the right to call it a career now. Can do so with his head held high.
Only man in NHL history, if I am not mistaken, who has won three Cups in a row, and do it on different teams.
Right place, right time? Perhaps...

But then again, those Cup winning Blues and Lightning teams WANTED him there because they knew very well what he could provide for them.

Hope he does well in whatever else he decides to pursue and enjoys family life to its fullest.
He will always be...The Big Rig!

I tried looking into the three consecutive cups with at least two different teams. Couldn't find an answer on that one specifically, but did note two other things I found while looking. With the 2020 cup, he was the first player to win two straight on separate teams since Cory Stillman in 2006. With the 2021 cup, he became the first player to win three straight since several members of the 1980s Islanders. That reminded me that while Edmonton won four cups in the 1980s, and a fifth in 1990, they actually had their streak interrupted by the Habs winning in 1986 (with two straight both before and after that).
