HF Habs: Trade Proposal Thread 92 Waiting on the DRAFT Edition

I would not do it, we can win a series, but not the cup. Team is not ready for that, there is no point of burning year of his ELC.
If we are trying to sign UFA 2C who would be a stop gap, that additional year might be important, e.g. we offer 3x7M to Duchene or we trade for Brayden Schenn who has 3 more years of 6,5M.
There is 100% a reason to burn a year of ELC. Most teams WANT (if their cap situation lets them) to do that with elite players because you get to sign them long-term 1 year earlier before they really breakout.

John Buccigross About Brad Marchand (Free Agency): ''Marchand, it’s going to be Florida or somewhere Northeast. I’m going to go, I almost went Montreal with Marchand. I think he wants to stay in the Northeast. So I’ll go Montreal for Marchand, go off the board a little bit there. Short flight to Boston if the family stays in Boston, 40 minute flight to Boston.”
No chance.

Yes, there is a point. To sign him long term a year earlier so we can economize a bit, especially with cap going high in the next 3 years. We don't need ELC rebate years with how much cap space we'll have in the next 3 years.

I doubt Demidov plays with Montreal this season, but if there was a chance I’d like to see the Habs bring him over, even if it means he requires a RFA contract earlier.

That would mean he gets a contract during the 2027-28 season instead of the 2028-29 season. Both Gallagher and Anderson would be off the cap that season (2027-28) freeing up $12 million in cap room, plus the cap is projected to go up significantly. With the first line and Guhle already signed to long term deals they would have lots of cap room. It would also mean Demidov, most likely, gets a long term contract after one full season instead of two which would, probably, reduce the AAV.

It also means Roy can go back to Laval and the 2nd line gets a boost to finish out the season.

I like the idea of offering Demidov a long-term contract after only one year of NHL stats to bolster his demands.

I also like the idea of Demidov training this summer with an idea of what to work on for play at the NHL level next season.

9M X 6 for Demidov, rather than 10M, 11M or more times 8 might serve all parties well. That's 7 years of a relatively affordable Demidov after next season, with the year remaining on his ELC, enough, with four years left of Suzuki, five years left of Caufield and Guhle and 6 years left of Slafkovsky and anywhere from 6 to 8 years of Hutson and Reinbacher for a Cup window to open up somewhere within that time frame.

Everyone will be young enough to consider re-signing after their current contract, to extend that window, and players like Fowler, Hage and selections from the 2025 draft should join the ranks to bolster the lineup once Montreal has become a perennial playoff contender.

GO HABS GO!

One of the most ideal fits for us at 2C and he's pumping Suzuki's tires. I hope the Islanders look to retool or rebuild this summer so we can take a swing at him.

About to turn 30. Signed until he’s 36 at 8.5mil. For 2-4 seasons he’s an incredible complement to Suzuki as a left-handed, two-way C. Overpaid but I think it’s manageable with our cap situation. He’s never been an elite player offensively but has a really solid shot and good IQ.

I’m torn. It would take significant assets to acquire him and it’s a big salary commitment for hopefully 4 good years from a secondary player. It’s a big upgrade but the long term fit doesn’t feel quite right.

The rangers will shake up their lineup this summer. I don't like Zibanejad, but he might be one of the available pieces.

Otherwise, Throatcheck imo is one of the most underrated players in the NHL and would be a nice grab.

...Rags would be idiotic to trade Trocheck and I doubt that either him or Zibby would waive for Montreal...

They are going to go after 25-26 year olds based on what Hughes said in that interview. They want players who will be impact players for the next 7-8 year window we have to contend.

Well they could have done that by acquiring PLD, now I'm not sure who he thinks is going to available, regardless of his will to overpay.

Old man in NY just told the media 3 weeks ago that he dont believe in rebuilds, wont do his best players for picks. Anyway the value is pretty crap to be honest.
To be honest I expect Lou to get canned. He's 82 and has no vision for the future. Roy probably wants to be GM and coach and his late season surge with a pretty crappy roster might convince owners to get him the reigns. Roy also called out a few Lou signings throughout the season without repercussions, signaling Lou doesn't have the power to fire him.

But I don't think Roy would want to blow it up either, he doesn't strike me as a visionary.

Great interview so far, thanks for sharing.

In terms of drafting: Hughes confirms they don’t believe in generic “BPA”
we know, hence drafting the dork with 2 broken knees and leg braces, while skipping on studs. Bergevin also often tooted his own horn about his special drafting 'expertise' , good times.

Yeah. putting Roy in charge could be Trotz The Sequel. Which might give HuGo a chance to fleece him.

Good luck finding a 25-26 years old that is an actual 2nd line center or top 4 RHD and is available.
