No one is paying Bennett 9M. What would be is comparable to earn 9M$? 7M$ would be the higher I could see them go.

If that were the case, I suspect he'd already be re-signed in Florida.

I bet he & his agent see this summer's market opportunity quite differently. Barring major injury in the playoffs, I suspect they'll be right.

I think you're in for a big surprise. If Bolland got 5.5 in 2014, Bennett will definitely make in that ballpark

Coyle was a better fit for Avs 3C than Mittle, hence why earlier in this thread I suggested targeting Mittlestadt. I saw him as a low end 2C that could have brought some offense for cheap.

Him being shipped out this early and having the BUF stain on him is not a good look

What i found interesting is he said he put some baits for good players with term in exchange for prospects/picks mainly. It ruled out good teams or teams near the playoffs. Anaheim/Seattle/NYI (or Nashville with O’Reilly) are the likely suspects

Average 54 points in the last 3 season, shoots L, fits our window while waiting for Hage (26 years old), reasonable cap hit (5.75). He is not a prime 2C but for cheap I think he could have helped the offense of this team and give Demidov next year a respectable center instead of one of Beck or Evans (can't count on Dach anymore).

We have lots of assets, but not a lot of prime assets to get a bonafide 2C.

But now that we know Avs got Coyle for him, I don't think we had the pieces for Mittlestadt. Avs we're looking most likely for a reliable 3C. Maybe Evans would have been a fit but Montreal chose to sign him instead.

In all seriousness, though, I think Hugo is perfectly capable to pull off something like that.

Until now his two main trades have been underwhelming : Dach and Newhook have Not met expectations. Laine is slow and always injured.

GMs go dumb for grit, SC ring and leadership. Summer of 2016 was full of that. Add a cap bump and you have recipe for regrets just like some 15 year Olds with an unsupervised liquor cabinet

Player needs to want to be here. Historically the ones we got lucky with had played for a Canadian team before (Cammalleri with CGY, Hamrlik with CGY, Cole with EDM, to an extent Radulov in QC City) so it depends how player is wired and how he sees our team. Tavares could be Sundin 2.0, let's hope the disrespect by management and fans make him want to turn into a villain à la John Cena

dream scenario for me for this summer would be to get

Marner as an UFA and trade for Horvat for a 1st picks Mailloux another prospect and perhaps an extra 2nd pick and 3rd.

2 PP line with 4 forwards with Hutson and Mardeson

Without looking at the numbers, I think that whole 3rd line would have to go. Which is fine by me.

I think players are smart enough to see the Habs are on the up and up. If you’re looking for a 5+ year contract, then you should see the Habs lineup and be enticed, assuming your goal is to win the Cup.

We still have to overpay for tax reasons though, that’s for sure.

I have a hard time seeing a fit buy McTavish would be GREAT here. I also find ANA has not being treating him fairly.

Personally I expect a fat Matheson extension on July 1st

Most of these were wingers and some had questions on character on top of that though

O'Reilly is probably the best comparable and he got essentially the same quality of package twice. There were no Demidov or Hutson-level adds. Tage Thompson was a late first seen as not hitting his upside at the time.

Never has the best prospect in hockey or a rookie dman who is likely going to outscore Makar and Hughes' rookie seasons been added as a piece to a deal like that.

Realistic targets for stopgaps (at least) at 2C, to me are :

UFA : Granlund, Bennett
Signed : Pageau, Zacha, Pettersson (depending on what Alvin wants for him), Horvat / Barzal (but doubtful since NYI will likely want to retool rather than rebuild)

I don't see Marner as an option, it seems quite sure he'll stay in TOR.

At D, I think MTL needs a RD and trade Matheson :

If he’s willing to waive his NTC, Parayko would be a nice partner for Hutson. St. Louis should start selling off their older players like him and Schenn. Maybe a double swoop as they would both fill massive holes on the team though I’ve never really been a big Schenn fan.

I would expect our management to know better as having been on the other side of the fence
