I don’t agree with that take. Complete rebuild is not 3 years.

Still don’t have a bona fide 2C and 1st pairing RD, two of the most difficult positions to fill.

30+ years of this org unable to roster top Cs (even Suzuki was obtained by luck not design) but now, Hughes will resolve it this off season?

You can’t call a rebuild over when the guys u drafted in that rebuild dont have a huge impact with the club… That’s called a botched rebuild. Some fans just can’t take it, it’s incredible. We gonna be mediocre for an other 10 years.

Partly done in by « culture » and the power of friendship between several players that won’t even be on the club when the team is on its contention window.

However, we did luck out on Hutson, Demidov (thanks Chest Bras Timmins) and Hage (thx Chest Bras Bergy, he likely contributed to the trade that permitted it).

If we did a redraft right now, all 3 of these guys would soar.

Maybe I should switch to thinking I could get guys like Dobson/Robert Thomas/Mathew Barzal by giving up mid first rounders, mediocre prospect like Mesar and Mailloux. Gonna help me sleep better tonite.

This is a wild scenario, but if we are going to go for it we need to go big or go home, so here it is.

First, I think all we should do this coming offseason is to sign a one year stop gap to replace Dvorak and Savard. The team will have to create cap space for 2025/2026 free agency by getting rid of Gallagher and Anderson

Secondly, My main target would be McDavid the begin the 2026-2027 season and also try getting Alex Tuch with his brother hopefully NHL ready by then. You would have the Xhekaj and Tuch brothers with an average high of 6’4” and 217 pounds which will be needed for the playoffs. It doesn’t have to be Alex Tuch specifically, but a veteran with size and offensive.

2C is the only real missing element lacking internal solution

It's been many years since this team and our pipeline was in better shape.

I'm happy to bet on / escrow that opinion in any fashion you like.

The only prospect that have the potential to have an impact are Demidov and maybe Reinbacher. Betting on Fowler to be a 1 goalie is a long shot. We didnt had a rebuild like the Hawks/LA/Tampa/Pens/Wsh did in previous years. We dont have the assets to acquired top talent like Florida did (after sucking for more than 5years). So many people here think we can get top talent with giving up mid first rounders and prospect like Mailloux, Mesar, etc, not happening bud.

We have some good pieces but not to be contenders. People laugh at San Jose and Chicago but watch them getting a cups before us with prospect like Mckenna and Dupont coming up in future draft, addind them to Celibrini, Bedard, etc.

I’m pissed off because we are in the worst spot, middle of the pack again. I’ll watch the run for the playoffs like everyone else, but I’ll be depressed when we gonna draft 14-15ov.

Or make a trade for a top 6 center. Somebody that will be here for more seasons. But Hughes said he didnt have the ammunition to get that done today. Not encouraging.

We haven't been middle of the pack in 5-6 years and the picks we used then were Caufield and Guhle, two mainstays on the team. We've been bad the last 5 years and have been rebuilding because of it.

Our core is all signed longterm. Slaf/Suzuki/Caufield and Guhle. Demidov + Reinbacher coming next year. We have 3 1sts and 4 2nds in the next two drafts. We have guys like Kapanen, Beck, Mailloux, Engstrom all potentially looking for spots at some point. We have a ton of money coming off the books in the next couple of years to gear up and sign free agents.

The future's bright, man. You're just determined to not see it.
