Zegras is better than he has been playing this season

He’s not good. At least not that much better than Dach that we should spend multiple assets to acquire. He’s just another reclamation project and makes our Top 6 even softer.

Tampa legitimately getting owned in that deal but they don't care. Any year they are successful they have to go for it and deal with the fall out when it all comes crashing down like the Penguins.

We ain't getting a stop gap at C with these prices. Woof.
depends.... thats why there is an "11th hour" with negotiations..

We could see a very last second deal like the Vanek one from years ago. A player that isn’t traded earlier because the price is too high and so they have to take a last minute deal before time runs out.

If I’m a Tampa fan I’m proud of my team for being ambitious and making moves to be as competitive as possible.

With that said, if I’m a Seattle fan I’m proud of my team for its excellent asset management. That’s a whole lot of ‘futures’.

never understood the purpose of "retaining" for a 4th rounder (especially to help out a conference team)? If im an owner, im like why are we spending $1.5m (25% of Gourdes contract) to pick a high 4th rounder?

Basically Yzerman feels 1.5million $ is the perfect amount for a 4th round ~ 125th pickoa?? what am i missing?

Detroit could use that pick in a trade this year to pick someone up. They could also use that pick to move up in the draft.

That $1.5m would be prorated though because 75% of the season is done. So really they are paying 25% of 25% of the total value ($1.5m). Therefore it’s only $375K of actual dollars.

It' not 1.5 million that would be his salary is 5.1 so it would be 1.3 for the full season but there are only 20 games left, it's like 325000 for a 4th rounder.

i understand it is an "asset" but I don't understand the value (economically). Basically Yzerman is valuing 4th rounders at $1.5M equity. This means the entire 4th round of the 2025 NHL draft is "apparently" worth $48MILLION in prospects... I don't buy it.

Obvious guy to target. Fits the timeline well and is progressing nicely. No idea what LA's issue with him is. At the same time they're trying to sign Gavrikov long term at 29 years old.

There's no way you write off a 22 year old in his first full year in the league as a PP specialist. Mailloux is the same age and hasn't even cracked the league yet.

yes it's prorated, but the value is established at 1.3million (for a 4th rounder). it is just very poor financial management given there is no physical asset/prospect coming their way. financial malpractice if im an owner - it doesn't affect the fans at all.. I get these guys are rich, but they are not in the business of burning bills to heat the building.

if these (GMs) were politicians, I'd immediately suspect some laundering going on. It's not a coincidence that Yzerman is an ex TB player - he's getting a pay out for this (back channels). it makes ZERO sense for DET to make this deal.
