Comparables are bad. He is what he is. There are enough reports and video out there of him that anyone can find out what he is without getting a lazy comparison that doesn't really cover things.
He's got great agility/mobility. Good defender on the rush but needs work on being a defender in his own end. Can get knocked around at times. Will need to get stronger. Great at getting the puck up ice. Manipulates defenders in the O zone to either get passing lanes open or get a good shot off. Future PP QB. Gets under opponents skin but can take it too far at times. Someone other teams hate but you love to have.
Whatever person or amalgamation of people that is, fill in whatever names.
Yeah, I understand and I agree they're lazy at times. I still like style comparable because it gives insight into the weaknesses and ideas on what the player may need to work on while developing. I agree I don't like style comparable for strengths at times.
Flames have had other guys like this in the past in Poirier and Kylington, so trying to figure out the different types of "strong offensive instincts, needs to figure out how to play away from puck in whatever zones" to focus what to look at as a nerd, is useful to me.
On/off ice attitude feels like Matthew Tkachuk to me. Can grate your teammates, but not in ways that make own team feel insulted or slighted.
Ozone stylistically aiming for like Hughes/Makar right now? (a little more manipulative than someone like a Bouchard?). Albeit he stands more vertical that most other players, nearly in a comical way.
Neutral zone = ? Most of what I saw is moving puck up ice or getting puck at blue line. Not sure of how well he dominates this zone.
Dzone = Gostisbehere right now? But hoping it develops to be better than that?
For NZ and DZ, I'm thinking his aim is to develop where he can do passes up ice while also rushing up to engage in the play at the NHL level. If he can get it to a Kylington (pre-mental health)/Brodie/Hamilton level, I think he's a surefire superstar. If not at that level, still very good.
I'm definitely going to be digging up more highlights, but any way to better focus the observations would be helpful.
For funsies, the Flames might be going after Isa Parekh as a FA. TBH, with our RD pipeline being so thin after Parkeh and Brewstewicsz and with his bro already ELC with us, it's a move that could make sense for everyone involved.
