HF Habs: Trade Proposal Thread #91: 2025 Trade Deadline edition

  • Xenforo Cloud will be upgrading us to version 2.3.5 on March 3rd at 12 AM GMT. This version has increased stability and fixes several bugs. We expect downtime for the duration of the update. The admin team will continue to work on existing issues, templates and upgrade all necessary available addons to minimize impact of this new version. Click Here for Updates
  • We're expecting server maintenance on March 3rd starting at midnight, there may be downtime during the work.
The habs have a ton of draft capital. I would love to see us move our 2 1sts and 2 2nds to get into the top 4. Not sure if any team will make that trade right now. maybe the pens or kraken?

Would the habs rather have:

Martone

or
Bear
Martin
Behm
Mckinney

Honestly, now that I've written it down, I kind of want to try and hit on our picks if we have to give up 4. I'm addicted to the rush of the unknown.

That could just mean not be buyers and, especially, not buyers of short term fixes with ageing veterans in supporting cast roles, for example.
The trading deadline is not a setting for that type of buying.

Long term pieces are usually had in the off season, as we all know, since all teams are actively in the market as both buyers and sellers, as opposed to the trading deadline where you have mostly playoff-type teams looking for short term reinforcements.

Indeed. The next window for hockey trades will be around the draft, where teams will look to cash in/trade their 25 picks and allocate their cap space for free agency.

And as history shows, he will pick another team. Here's a little piece of advice: Don't get your hopes up regarding 'desirable' UFAs. They never sign here.

The fact is that Montreal is 1 rung up from Winnipeg as a popular UFA landing spot.
One can dream! Haha but ya I know, with the taxed and everything it’s gonna be hard.

Everything must go!!! Go!!! Go!!!

Armia, Savard, Pez, Dvorak, Gallagher, Matheson, Evans.

Extraordinary prices, low, low, the annual Habs firesale.
It has to be where Hughes is headed. He is extremely anal about not losing players for nothing.

We only need remember the gymnastics Hughes went through last season by tolerating a burdensome 3-goalie system rather than lose out on what was and turned out to be a measly return on Jake Tank Commander Allen. 💀

He had Allen traded to NJ early in the season but Allen wouldn't go. No telling if anyone else offered or Allen turned down any other destinations.

This team will never get out of its 30+ year failings at the centre position by trading the likes of Hage without finding out what he can be once developed.

We need more Hages and better, since development is not linear nor guaranteed. Centre is the toughest position to fill — Hughes needs to put himself in a position of leverage in order to shore it up.
100% agree.

You’re always better off getting the higher pick rather than multiple lower picks simply because your chances of seeing that top pick player develop and succeed as an NHLer are far greater.

Which is probably why you never see that kind of deal getting done.

Even so, Hughes ended up with a 3-goalie rotation so he could squeeze out a 3rd rounder (conditional but Allen’s GPs will not qualify it). Strikes me as someone who doesn’t want to give up on anything for free.

Meantime, TVA Spanre pimping Cozens in their pre-game coverage/ bla-bla.

Every year I think the deadline will be blah and it surprises me how many deals happen. So I hope Hughes can find some pieces to help now and in the future.

Fla board does not like the trade.
I think they'll be surprised with Jones. Him not having to be a number one guy is going to make him look a lot better. Also not costing them 9.5 million will be nice

Losing Knight sucks but win another cup and you won't care about not having the goalie of the future in 2-3 years

as a habs fan, the more teams in our division, mortgage the future to win now, the more i am happy. especially when they trade young talent to the other conference.

I just can’t see us making any moves before the deadline. The fact we’re about to win 4 straight games and coupled with the Dach injury, I don’t see this management further depleting our centre depth.

We will only be 3 points out of the playoffs after tonight.
