  • We're expecting server maintenance on March 3rd starting at midnight, there may be downtime during the work.
He is too old for the price he'd cost us. The price would make sense for a contender that could be a Crosby away from a cup. But for us he's too old. We'd have to sell off a ton of futures for a guy that'll be 38 next season when we haven't even made the playoffs yet in this rebuild.
If he were to come it's because he wants to. He has a NMC and Pitts would be dealing of a position of weakness, so it wouldn't cost the moon. Obviously would cost something, but not as much as some think. Again, it would be a one team negotiation in this instance.

Looks like we missed out on a trade with Minny.. I bet management sits on their asses and watch the parade.

If Nyquist was more interesting than Evans or Armia, we sure aren't getting that.
Or, as previously stated by management, they aren't about to gut the team for futures while in middle of playoff hunt.

trading Evans for a pick today, a few days after Dach was shut down for the year, would obviously be a blow to CC, Suzuki & the rest of the roster.

Fortunately, current management has a clear plan in place and has the fortitude to follow it.

Evans & Armia, if dealt at all, likely aren't moving until the deadline. Nothing wrong with that at all. There are enough buyers out there that moving either or both wont be an issue should the team fall out of PO striking distance by then

Thoughts on these:

1. We trade for Seth Jones and he is our no.1 RHD. Plays with Hutson on top pair. Matheson is traded. Other pairings stay the same. Reinbacher has all the time he needs to develop, likely an issue in a couple years.

2. We trade for Nemec and he plays bottom pair with Savard getting traded. We have Nemec and Reinbacher as possible top RHD of the future.

However, I think the 2C is the most important need since Dach obviously isnt winning that spot this year.
What do purpose we give up for these two?

That's because there's so few sellers. Unless we lose out until next Friday then I'm not even sure if we're going to be sellers.
Habs better be sellers.

They need roster spots for new players to take the next step, they don't need to run it back and hope they incrementally get better.

Habs letting Dvorak go allows for one spot to improve their team.

Letting Savard walk and not tendering Struble leaves 1 spot.

We have Buffalo x2 and Edmonton (who are on a terrible streak right now) before the deadline. If we grab 4 to 6 points before the deadline I just can't see Hughes selling.

Hughes said he’d stick with the plan (long term plan, I’m assuming). It’s not the team’s record in the few games since returning from the break that is going to decide what they were going to do.

Whatever anyone is thinking to give up for those two, I’d like it to be whatever is disposable after a 2C is obtained. But, that’s just my opinion.

They could do both

Sell the UFAs, acquire players with term.

That's based on getting what he's asking for the players. Like the rumour says he's not going to trade them for picks just to do so.

If they can get their desired 1st for Evans and Armia you have to do it as it allows you to use your other two firsts to get some top prospects in the pool and you have another first to chase after a player to help you now with term who hopefully isn't a project like Dach and Newhook.

Or you get a decent prospect and a later pick and you can evaluate if you want to keep said prospect and use one that the Habs drafted, or trade said prospect in a deal for a NHL regular in the offseason.

Can get that 1st, trade a 3rd, or 2 3rds for instance to Boston for John Beecher to be the 4th line centre.

Also without giving those players extensions you have a bit more room to chase after top free agents and maybe a team spends a little much and you can grab a piece they need to sell for cheap because you have the room and assets to acquire said player.

There's more to letting those players go via trade than keeping them imo.

Dvorak likely stays because he sucks

That could just mean not be buyers and, especially, not buyers of short term fixes with ageing veterans in supporting cast roles, for example.

They will be tendering Struble. What are you talking about?

Wouldn't surprise me if Savard is back as 7th D.

Giving spots to young players before they earn it is not a good idea.
They're passed that stage now.
Other than Demidov, there are no sure things.

Struble has been very meh.

I didn't say give the spots to rookies...
