I've been advocating that Habs should look into bringing in a veteran Russian mentor with NHL experience. Of course it would have to be a player who is capable enough to earn a spot on our roster.
It’s slim picking with the Russian UFAs forwards this year as it seems the only 2 I can see helping are Dadonov and Namestnikov, the latter being my choice since being a center.

Andrei Markov in some coaching consulting capacity (PP?) / Demigod mentor

A Russian who actually experienced the hellfire that is the Mtl market for 15 yrs

Evans for a 1st/2nd
Savard for a 2nd
Armia for a 3rd
Matheson for a 1st

I think if we move 2/3 guys for picks we might be able to better position ourselves in the draft. Our prospect cupboards are pretty full and it's time to move some picks to get up a couple spots for a homerun pick.

Armia is the kind of player playoff teams love to add at the tdl

Big skilled 2-way winger who elevates his game in the playoffs

He's returning at least a 2nd

Sorry but what history does Armia have of doing this exactly ?

He had a couple of good playoff games during 2020 Covid year and that’s it.

He’s been mostly invisible during his 6-7 years here save for some spurts here and there and needed a wake up call last year as he came very close to playing himself out of the NHL.

Is he having a decent year ? Yes...but he’s still only a 30 point player who despite his size is actually not physical.

I’d be shocked if anyone gave up anything more than a 4th rounder for him.

It is nice that Savard is a RHD, vet with Stanley cup, blocks shots, but all teams have their pro scout and I cannot imagine single hockey person who would say that he passes the eye test. He barely moves and plays very insulated role on a weak team, just because he is a respected vet. Not because he is good enough for NHL, not even talking about intense playoff hockey.

Orlov from Carolina is a shout. Cup champ. Always on good teams.

He’s and LD who’s played a good part of his career on the right side. Would be a solid Carrier upgrade to play with Ghule.

I don't know if Utah still has a plan for Victor Soderstrom (RHD) but he could be a good addition to our young core.

He seems to finally blossom, at last.

I know basically nothing about him but going over his profile he seems like an undersized bust who couldn’t make it in NA and went back to EU.

What do you see in him that makes him worth a look?

He’ll bring a 2nd/3rd for sure. Teams that need PK help will bid for him and Evans. Hughes will probably go for 2026 picks at this trade deadline.

I think like you . Few weeks before the deadline many are not worth a first , but come desperation time , even chariot goes for a first

Chiarot was having a career year points wise and playing as our number 1 D since Petry was sucking!

If Evan's can have a few big games and get back to being on a 40 points per 82 games pace, I think that would help. He's actually only 1 point below that pace now. He used to be on pace for 20 goals. Now he's on pace for 16.
