I don't see anyway Hughes acquires Back, unless he traded Florian or Beck or Kapanen and Davidson away in despair.
Other than Beck, most of these guys might not be with the big club next year and Bäck is ahead development wise compared to the players you listed.
Bäck has steadily progressed in the AHL the past 3 seasons and is doing well with limited ice time with Dallas.
Big guy, good on face off. I think he would be a good add for the next few seasons on either the 3rd or 4th line.

He's ahead because he's 24, going to be 25 in March. It's just a no thank you. We can find a better stop gap, and I'm sure he's not done in the AHL.

Let Berg try to get him eh...

He is not waiver eligible anymore and I doubt he goes unclaimed.
Plenty of players started their NHL career at 24 and ended up playing many impactful games.

Dvorak and Evans should be gone and that is 30 minutes a game that will need to be replaced. I think Bäck could manage 12-15 minutes.

You mean is no longer waiver exempt? Well aware of it and that's one more reason to say no thank you.

We do not need to trade for players like Oskar Back at the TDL.

My assumption is that it will be relatively easy to replace either of Evans or Dvorak, but it may take some effort to replace both.

For example, between Beck, Kappanen, FX, one might need to go back to Laval next year, one might be injured, then all of a side seen you need a player.

What is your plan to replace Evans and Dvorak?
Add to this that Dach/Newhook might not be a C either.
That’s the entire bottom centermen needed to be replaced.

Add from the UFA market or just give both spots to the farm.

Worst case scenario is you trade for a stop gap or claim from the waiver wire at the beginning of next season. So maybe you claim Back in October, maybe.

Shouldn't be hard to just claim or trade at that point if it happens. Whichever aging AHLer is looking interesting right now may not look the same coming in October. The pick, on the other hand, would remain the same, given we got a 2026 one.

I am all for tanking again next year if that’s the plan as it would probably be better to be honest.

Dallas has 5 UFAs which 2 are centres, so I am not sure Bäck ever goes on waivers.

That was Arpon Basu’s suggestion as a way to maximize return - giving a contender seeking to upgrade PK a combo for immediate improvement

As usual D’Amico regurgitates someone else’s ideas as his own
It makes a lot of sense. Because trading Evans alone for a 2nd, would not return much.

Evans for a 1st/2nd
Savard for a 2nd
Armia for a 3rd
Matheson for a 1st

I think if we move 2/3 guys for picks we might be able to better position ourselves in the draft. Our prospect cupboards are pretty full and it's time to move some picks to get up a couple spots for a homerun pick.

I dont think our prospects are full at all.. we need to get to the point whereby our rookies are tearing up the AHL ready to come to the big club.

Is there a possibility we acquire a couple of guys teammates of Demidov with SKA.

Arseny Gritsyuk and Zakhar Bardakov, both 23 years old and both are properties on New Jersey.

Evgeny Kuznetsov is a skill NHL veteran that could greatly help Demidov in his NHL debut.

If we go after one of his teammates, better go all in and go after Nikishin......

I can't see any world where this Habs brass adds Kuznetsov and all his baggage to the room to be a mentor for our top prospect.
