HF Habs: Trade Proposal Thread #90: 2024-2025 season part III

I mean if Demidov can come in and.score 55-60 pts it'd go a long way. Defense will need to improve after that.
If the Habs are in the farkit zone at or near next year's trade deadline, they should try Demidov at C at that point.

If we don't add a 2C at this year's trade deadline, they should try Slafkovsky at C. He's more of a passer than a shooter anyhow, and has already made a lot of surprising plays that demonstrate that he sees the play that is developing quite well.

From everyone's favorite writer...

Says pretty much what Lebrun and Seravalli have been saying last week.
Adds Matheson as a player drawing interest. Also it says that Armia has much more value than people might think.

Mentions Cozens, Zegras and Dobson as potential targets. But also said on twitter that Dobson is only available for a top line player like Pettersson, which makes sense.

I've also heard Seravalli say the Habs are gonna be agressive. He mentionned the names Cozens and Pettersson friday.

FWIW.

I've already mentioned I'd try to keep Armia on a short term low AAV deal. For me he's the main reason our PK has been so much better.

GM's will be trying to get Armia cheaply and many will look at him as a far better rental than Jake Evans for a long post season run. I know I would.

That's not entirely true, as ROR, Reinhart, Eichel & Rodrigues all played well for Buffalo. They were all top line players for them, except for Rodrigues, and added high end depth to already good teams.

Cozens is not playing well for them & is not a top line player. He's middle 6.
I wasn't affirming the prevailing narrative, bur, rather, the post merely noted it and speculated on its influence on the fandom's desire to acquire Cozens.

At first it might look like a step backward, but Buffalo need to resign Peterka, McLeod and Byram this summer and they don't have a lot of space. So, how you want them to sign Marner or Rantanen? And let's bet honest, none of these 2 are going to Buffalo.

But, they have a good center line with Thompson, McLeod and Kulich/Helenius incoming. Do they really need Cozens? And Cozens has his lowest P/60 since his rookie year, he clearly needs a trade to fulfil his potential.

They'll never get Marner or Rantanen, but they could go for Tavares, Bennett or Granlund with Cozens now out, and that would be an instant improvement. You add CGY 1st and MTL 2nd, they could pick around 12th + they'll already probably pick top 5 and voila, you're a much better club over one summer.
You fixated on one part, the smallest part.

Buffalo likely isnt signing any of those players, unless Tavares wants to be close.

Buffalo isn't trading Cozens and hoping they can replace him on the UFA market, hence they won't deal him unless they need to clear space.

Buffalo is a really undesirable spot just because they have been out of the playoffs for so long.

Buffalo has 33 mill in space. Peterka, Byram and McLeod take maybe 20. Then there's Quinn who will get a bridge deal if not dealt.

The sabres can easily keep their players and then add it very free agency and not have to sell Cozens for futures.

If they dump anyone for fututes it might be Samuelsson. That guy is basic.
I hope the teams calling for MM are immediately sent a video highlight presentation along with a box of chocolate and rare wine.

Well another former agent that tried reclaimation project is Bill Zito (Reinhart, Verhaeghe, Bennett, Forsling).

Obviously HuGo is far from having the same (or any) success for those kind of trades but it’s not like it’s a bad idea. If you want to improve your team you have to take (calculated) risks otherwise it’s hard to improve faster then the other teams.

Personally what irks me is that they publicly state “need grit in playoffs, C line is key” and it’s our main weaknesses
It seems the only numbers Hughes is able to calculate are the salaries he negotiates, not the projects he took on. He started with pretty difficult gambles.

They probably want to keep Zucker as well, maybe even Greenway.
