I smell a maelstrom of trades after the break.
I don’t see Casey Mittelstadt mentionned here. 2nd line center who can reach 60pts/year. Reasonable contract for 2 years after this one. We can probably get him for a combination of Evans and either some other ufa players like Armia or Savard and prospect.
Switch Dach to the wing and with the arrival of Demidov next year and Beck staying in the lineup, we get deeper and better upfront.
lolTime to trade Suzuki for Pettersson. Trade Caufield somewhere else too. We are too small too slow.

Evans, yes, if there isn't a good deal in place. His 5 year ask can't happen. He's a very solid 4th line C.We need to go scorched earth.
Matheson
Evans
Savard
Armia
Anderson
Gone, please.
He's not a centre on a team that can go for it.I don’t see Casey Mittelstadt mentionned here. 2nd line center who can reach 60pts/year. Reasonable contract for 2 years after this one. Savy, whatever we can get.
Armia, absolutely should be shipped out and ideally he and Evans go together.
I'm good with Matheson being shipped out. Would love a solid skating, defense first RD in return to play with Hutson until Reinbacher is ready to take on that role.
Anderson.....I don't see why we move him unless of course it makes sense. He's played very well in his new role. Yeah he's overpaid, but there's only two years left on his deal so it's not really a hinderance.
I see Newhook sticking around. Dach and Laine are not part of the future core. Gally likely gets bought out with the cap rising. Anderson is effective on the 3rd/4th linesPersonal feeling is that Armia is gone one way of the other. He's either traded or he'll walk as a UFA. I'm sure a team will be willing to give him that insane contract and he may be able to join a contender team. I would never have guess that he could raised from his ashes, but he manage to carve a role for himself and he's good in that role.
Trading Dach to get another C is not a solution. I see Dach as part of the solution, not the problem. Whether he find a spot of the 2nd line or 3rd line, he can bring size, speed and physical play. Lack of depth and skill is forcing MSL to play him in a role that may not optimize his skill set.
I'm getting less optimistic with Laine long term role with this team. In fact, i'm wondering what he could return if traded this summer half-cap retain. I'm still wondering if his knee is ok. he's not in shape that is for sure and he's not the most intense guy out there, but this level of play strikes me as lower then what he usually bring. Regardless, while he's a big guy, he's rarely physical, his shot on PP1 can be replace by CC. So I see him as replaceable.
As far as a 2C, he needs to be LH. Cant go with 4 RH C. At this point Newhook is a trade chip for me. Wont return much, but he's not a needed piece.
With a traded Laine, I see this
CC - Suzuki - Demidov
Dach - LH/2C - Slaf
Heineman - Evans - Anderson
Kapanen - Beck - XXX
Gally
With Laine still there.
CC - Suzuki - Slaf
Laine - LH/2C - Demidov
Dach - Evans - Heineman
Kapanen - Beck - Anderson
Gally
Oh for sure. If some team knocks out socks off, gotta do it.For Anderson, I agree. I just think some team out there would be willing to overpay for him given his improvement this season. Ultimately if he’s still around I won’t be too mad, but if you can get something of value for him you gotta do it.
That's not really scorched earth at all. trading Suzuki, Caufield and Guhle would be scorched earth. We need to go scorched earth.

Yeah, Evans, Savard, Armia, Pez, Dvorak traded for 5th/6th and 7ths.I smell a maelstrom of trades after the break.

Withholding salary might help get something of value for him.For Anderson, I agree. I just think some team out there would be willing to overpay for him given his improvement this season. Buffalo isn't kicking the can down the road. If they make a trade and it's for futures those futures are getting sent out for help now.My three way trade
MTL gives : Mike Matheson, Logan Mailloux, CGY 2025 1st, MTL 2026 2nd
MTL gets : Noah Dobson
NYI gives : Noah Dobson
NYI gets : Mike Matheson, Dylan Cozens
BUF gives : Dylan Cozens

If pruning dead wood to you is scorched earth, all rebuilding teams go the scorched earth route then.Fair enough, it’s scorched earth in my mind.
Suzuki, Caufield and Guhle along with Hutson are the only untouchables to me currently on the active roster.
Withholding salary might help get something of value for him.
Considering that Montreal will not be in cap trouble even if it holds all of Anderson's 5.5M for the next two years with him continuing to play in Montreal, why would 2.75M extra dead space on the Cap matter, especially if the return for Anderson is good?
We have one spot to hold back salary and others opening up starting next season. If we are going to use that spot, we should maximize the return, even if that means using it for two years with next year as well.
2 years of Anderson, or 2 years of Matheson will likely yield the best returns.
I'd pull one of those off if there is a market, whichever yields the best return, even if losing Matheson will likely have a greater negative impact in the short term, IMO.
Posters' unexplainable hate for Matheson confounds me. The veteran plays tons of extremely difficult minutes and shields some youngsters from needing to take on those minutes too early in their development. That should not be discarded offhandedly.
A maelstrom league-wide, I don't think Habs are going to do a fire sale. I don't see how any team could want Pez, and Dvorak is arguable.Add Dach and Gallagher
Yeah, Evans, Savard, Armia, Pez, Dvorak traded for 5th/6th and 7ths.
Pezz is a waiver-wire pick up, and Dvorak is like a 5th round pick at best.A maelstrom league-wide, I don't think Habs are going to do a fire sale. I don't see how any team could want Pez, and Dvorak is arguable.

While Buffalo is on track to miss the playoffs again, taking an obvious step backwards isnt something anyone in that organization wants to do.
If they can sign Marner and Rantanen, then they might sell a player off for futures.
Decent warm bodies for the tank, I think we're keeping them till the end of their respective deals.Pezz is a waiver-wire pick up, and Dvorak is like a 5th round pick at best.
Those guys are garbage.
I doubt we see Matheson gone based on the responses and rational for Barron tradeWe need to go scorched earth.
