Duchene was signed for one year by DAL at only 3M! It's unclear whether they would be able to sign him to a two-year contract and for more money this time up. Montreal can afford to do both and overpay in salary. Term and money can definitely make a difference.
The cap going up in three consecutive seasons will surely help, but would DAL be willing to sign Duchene at 6M for two years this time around?
For Montreal, it is a short enough term and would not skew the current Cap maximum paid out by our GM.
There are no guarantees that Duchene would sign with Montreal, but the question is whether he would be a player worth pursuing to add a stop-gap at C while we continue to develop Hage and, perhaps, a C like Desnoyers if we were to select him at the 2025 draft?
If you did, it would mean that the C on your line gets tossed 0ut of the dot way too often!
