With the hit on Thompson the other night, the Sabres might be looking for a big player who can drop and fight like Josh Anderson imo. He's playing well this year with only 2 years remaining on his contract.

Anderson + Newhook for Cozens?

That would be a steal, a steal of the century.

If Duchene becomes a UFA he is someone to look at. Great at face offs, left shot, and he's 34 but still produces. Given his age a 3 year deal might be acceptable term which would be ideal for us.

I would think Dallas would want to extend him, but it hasn't happened yet.

Not sure what is up with Cozens. Had one really nice year but his shooting % was well above his average that year. At best is he a 50 plus points guy ? Don't know.

Zegras is named again in rumours. Don't know. And is he at best a get you to playoffs guy and zip after that ?

I don't want to do a higher level bargainbin thing where instead of wheeling and dealing on waivers and 5th round picks we are gambling 1sts.

so this is adding to the feeling KH needs a centre

It is certainly leading to a lot of Dach's problems.

This is just a hunch but i think we are in on Pettersson .I watched a bit of the Canucks game and he doesn't look any better than he did when Miller was there.I think he wants out of there.I think because of his lousy play and the terrible contract he can be had for very little.If he could turn his career around he would be exactly what we need.Of course it could turn out to be a disaster also.

I wouldn't touch Petterson. He's a load of trouble. Pettersson spent whole season last year causing a distraction about his contract.
Completely disappeared after signing his contract and pulled a total no-show during playoffs.
Shows up for camp out of shape and continues to play terribly. Makes 11.8m for next 7 years.

So does Newhook and Dach has very little defense. We can get offense from the blueline with Hutson or Matheson.

It’s the sabres man, anything other then a bad trade means that they had a stroke and not the opposite

To be fair that's at like 3.5, or less which will probably be the cost for an average 4th line centre and Evans is better than average.

Is Cozens any better than Dach?

At his best, he's a better, more complete player. Hard to tell how damaged he is confidence/happiness wise right now, though. He might need to get build back up a bit and Montreal isn't always the best place to do that. I like him a lot, FWIW.

Outside if this year, he's averaging 58 pts in his previous 2 seasons at 21 and 22 yo, so yes he's better then Dach. He's also 1st in the last 3 seasons in face-off taken on the Sabres and he's also a regular on the PK.

His salary suck at 7M but he's better at both end of the ice.

What about Texier to play 3C for us next year?

Pretty low trade value right now and could be a good bounce back candidate, solid defensively and left handed.

I forget if he went to St. Louis for personal reasons or something though I think there was something up with him and the Blue Jackets.

Could swap him for Evans now if St. Louis wants to try and make a run

This is so true, he's not missing namy games so far in his career. Hes also pretty big kinda Dach and imo he would complement Demidov better.
