I like Cozens, but I'm not looking to move Dach either.
If we can get it done with a futures heavy package I'm in.

No.. we don't need more late 1st round picks. Especially in this draft.
true but Hage is 3 years awayI wouldn't say no to Cozens but I don't want him to block Hage in his development when he arrives and I feel in the end both will bring similar skills to the lineup, so not sure.
How often do drafts predicted to e weak actually turn out weak?
I remember 2007 was said to be a weak draft.
Hage's gonna be here at the end of next year and is gonna be in the lineup for his full first season in 2026-2027. It's closer than we think!true but Hage is 3 years away
There will still a spot open on the wing on the top 6 and a spot at 3C.I wouldn't say no to Cozens but I don't want him to block Hage in his development when he arrives and I feel in the end both will bring similar skills to the lineup, so not sure.
yep, season 2026-2027.Hage's gonna be here at the end of next year and is gonna be in the lineup for his full first season in 2026-2027. It's closer than we think!
I don't think calling him a big upgrade is inaccurate at all.Big is extrapolating.
This is his first season above 50% face-off percentage, so we aren't getting a face-off ace either.
He makes 7.1 million, so almost double what Dach is costing on the cap.
He's on pace for 40 points this season. Which is only 8 more points than Dach, and that's without recovering from a major injury and losing a full season prior.
His previous season was 47 points.
38 points the year before his 68 point season.
At this point that 68 point season is an outlier, not the norm.
The only certainty here is you are getting the healthier player. But you aren't getting a left shot. You aren't getting a sure fire center.
It's a complete gamble, a 7.1 million dollar gamble with term on top of that. If all Cozens is, is a 40-50 point winger.. that's going to be a big whiff.
If they want to do something around the Calgary pick and a prospect like Mesar, sure, go for it. I can live with it since Cozens has speed and size. But this is not an acquisition that I'm dying to make.
Remove this season, Is it true that Petterson is very good defensively? This is just a hunch but i think we are in on Pettersson .I watched a bit of the Canucks game and he doesn't look any better than he did when Miller was there.I think he wants out of there.I think because of his lousy play and the terrible contract he can be had for very little. If he could turn his career around he would be exactly what we need.Of course it could turn out to be a disaster also.
If he makes ittrue but Hage is 3 years away
He was top 5 for selke vote 2 years ago IIRC.Remove this season, Is it true that Petterson is very good defensively?
He’s a stud defensively, better then SuzukiRemove this season, Is it true that Petterson is very good defensively?
I don't think calling him a big upgrade is inaccurate at all.
He's shown a much higher offensive ceiling (30 points higher than Dach's career best), even at his worst he's a significant improvement over Dach in the faceoff dot(45.5% is his career worst vs Dach's 40.5% career best) and he's been significantly healthier than Dach (132 more games played than Dach since the start of the 2021-22 season).
There's not many young 2C's out there that are realistically available, so if Cozens is truly on the market then I'm at least entertaining the possibility.
I think offensively it's a wash but Dach is abysmal on the FO and Cozens is a better player defensively. But like you, i don't think Cozens value as that higher because of his salary. It's inaccurate because it's not big and you aren't accounting for the fact that Cozens is making 7.1 million.
If Cozens truth is actually the seasons he's playing hovering around 40ish points and not the outlier season, then you are paying a lot more for a very small difference in production.
This is still Cozens first season above 50%, so he's only just gotten to a passable level there.
We aren't even sure at this point that Cozens is a center, the same questions are there as Dach.
The only thing Cozens has for sure is the health, but the contract still exists. If Dach played 82 at his pace in his first season with us, he would have had around 54 points.. so only 14 points off Cozen's outlier season.
Adding to Dach to get Cozens could be a step back move than a step forward move. It's not exactly the thing I'd advocate to go after.
I'd gauge the market on him but at this point, he's an upgrade on Dach at almost double the price and there isn't a whole lot of evidence outside of one season that the upgrade is big.
Dach wasn’t a centre when he had his good season with us. He was a PP merchant (42% of his production vs 26% for Cozens) and was mostly good as a winger. It's inaccurate because it's not big and you aren't accounting for the fact that Cozens is making 7.1 million.

Well shit then.. maybe we should target this guy. He would probably love it here and get back to his 100 point form.. Would he mesh well with this group? Why was he beefing with Miller? He’s a stud defensively, better then Suzuki
He’s also soft as shit, and we already have a soft as shit Top 6. A complete no-show in the playoffs last year.He was top 5 for selke vote 2 years ago IIRC.
