Bouchard is not a proven 80+ pt d. He only did it once and is on pace for 60 pts WITH McDavid. Like Mailluox I doubt he can combine defense and offense and be more than a 60 pter. Bouchard would likely be Mailloux level without McDavid.

Bouchard is better at everything. Offensively, he's always been able to see seams at an elite level. He was an amazing puck distributor in London. His issue has been being lackadaisical defensively moreso than the lack of processing speed Mailloux shows. I don't know what to make of Mailloux. He has tools, but everytime I watch him I don't see the brain power needed to defend at an NHL level.

I like what I see in Bennett not sure we have a chance of getting them

Probably not. Maybe dive deeper into the bargain bin for a short term solution and pick up Granlund. I was impressed with him this tournament and he fits as a 2C/3C with experience/skill/two-way ability.

Reactions: Benstheman
We desperately need to get a number 1 or 2 center. We can't have Laine and Demidov being centered by Dach. Yes even over getting a RD. I would even overpay to get one at this point.

Also drafting a center isnt in the cards either all the kids have started or will be starting those long term deals so its best to get a veteran center.

And he’s also an 80+ point a year defenceman. You can live with the odd bad giveaway with that production. Mailloux is not smart enough at the one thing he’s good at to be a QB on a top unit. Definitely not close enough to supplant Hutson. So right now we are discussing having an awful defender whose only positive contribution could come on PP2. It’s useless. It’s basically having Mike Matheson but a lot worse.
Bouchard appears to be more of 65 point dman a year. Maybe less depending on what he does next year.

That's taking his 80 point season and then what he's on pace for this year.

If I were you, I'd get Flohockey, or if you can find the games for free and watch Mailloux. He's getting better.

I do have Flohockey and I have watched almost every game Mailloux has played in London, Laval and Montreal since he was drafted. Mailloux has the same 'problem' Bouchard has: a lack of mobility. It's the reason Bouchard wasn't picked for Team Canada., despite his offensive prowess. As for Mailloux, unless he significantly improves his acceleration, this kid will never be an effective NHL defenceman. As for him possibly supplanting Hutson on Montreal's power play, Mailloux isn't even on Laval's first power play unit because of his inability to effectively transport the puck.

People have to see Mailloux for what he is. And it has little to do with his decision making. It's all about execution. Or in Mailloux's case, the lack there of.

Can't skate anymore
We were saying the same for Savard not so long ago.

Bottom line is Conroy decided to waive Barrie instead of getting draft capital for him. That's not a good sign for the RD market, unless Barrie is indeed incapable of playing 25 more games in the NHL. Habs could sell high on Savard and buy low on Barrie. I'm not sure we're planning on dealing Savard anymore, unless they found another RD to replace him. They want Mailloux maybe?

Bennett is a UFA this summer. A left handed #2 center. Would you give him 10 million?
I don't think giving 10 M$ for a 2nd line center is reasonnable. If that's what it takes, i don't pay that for him.

Wouldn't go over 8M$ but might not be enough. Anyways, there has to be another incentive for him to sign in Mtl and i don't know if there is tbh. What's interesting is he is a Quartexx client and Hughes would have the inside track at Bennett's intentions and his will to sign here, if any. So if there is a chance he accepts to sign him, i'm confident Hughes would put forth an educated offer that fit his needs and team's.

I don't see him leaving Florida. I think he'll take less money to stay with a cup contender that's set up pretty well for the next 3-4 years.

Prepare not to have a 2C for a long while or pay a ton of assets to get one. Suzuki-Bennett would be an awesome 1-2 punch, and we will have the wingers to support them. Bennett would be more like a 1B and would give Demidov a vet C to play with. We could also put Caufield with him and have Demidov play with Suzuki. Bennett would make our team a lot better, and with the cap going up, $10mil wouldn't be so bad.
