Hearing lots of chatter over past few days that Rantanen doesn't want to stay in Carolina long term even if they give him his money.

Really hope Habs have a chance. Would be easiest way to improve our offence without losing any assets
I’d offer up Cgy 1st for Rantanen & take the risk he’ll enjoy his time as a Hab w his BFF (Laine)

He does not, because his goal is testing the market.
Don’t know that for a fact, only assumption at this point is there is perhaps no desire to extend in Car & he’s looking for more $$ than MacKinnon which Avs were not willing to go past

I would assume having his BFF on the Habs would provide HuGo insight ..

I think Carolina brings him into the playoffs. That's a lot more insights and convincing arguments than a weak 1st rounder can bring.

The take in the tweet is just plain bad.

One would think so, but Tulsky’s all out analytics approach + Canes frugality w $$$ changes approach. Tulsky won’t lose an asset for nothing, so I wouldn’t rule out Rantannen being dealt for assets and Canes acquiring other immediate help for lower value

That premise sounds like over-generalization. The Canes are in it to win, meaning losing Rentals for nothing is part of the game, no matter how high they paid.

Only at calculated cost, losing Rentals for nothing depends on which rentals. If Rantannen nets a 1st + prospect and Canes can turn around and get an older vet to step in for remainder of season at a lower price and lose him for nothing, that would be Tulsky’s M.O.

Yes, and then they are nobodies in the playoffs. Their goal is to win it, if they do this, it's a tank move imho.

The guy is in it too deep to back away. It was a gamble, it failed you capitalize by winning, not by doubling down.

So let me get this straight.

EP at $11M - ewww gross. I’d never!

Bennett at $10M - oh yeah. I want me some of that.

That’s a disingenuous statement.

Nobody thinks that Bennett will get 10 million per. It’s not realistic.

But Bennett as a UFA, paying above market price to sign (say 8.5 million per) is a lot more palatable than paying the kings ransom in assets it would require to pick up Pettersson from Vancouver, AND pay him 11 million per after.

Is it though? Bennett’s career high is 49 points.
