Nemec isn't readier than Reinbacher, Olivier doesn't center better than Dach and Newhook and the rest of the moving doesn't accomplish anything on the lineup. I doubt anyone takes Gallagher with or without retention. I must disagree with this plan.

Like the panic offseason that Gainey had as GM signing a bunch of UFAs and trading for Gomez.
Not even comparable, the acquisitions aren't on par, as they're all bottom 6 or bottom 3. Seth Jones sucks, I'm sorry but he's no longer a top pairing d-man in this league.

We were headed in right direction until that tragedy. After that he bought in Pierre Gauthier and it started down hill. I think we good shot at Cup in '06 if not for Koivu eye injury. It seemed to turn the tide
Funny thing with Gauthier. It drove me bananas that Koivu was the guy digging in the corners for the puck and always thought, man , get him a power forward. But Houle couldn't / wouldnt , and neither could Gainey. Then Koivu is let to walk and Gauthier, bang signs Eric Cole, power forward , just like that.

That Armia for a 3rd, maybe a 2nd is the only trade a team accepts.

Both Kapanen and Beck are very similar profiles to Evans. Their steady developments shows they should be ready next year for NHL role. I would focus to get improvements on Savard and Dvorak. Might be just 2 year stop gap solution or permanent one. Getting LHC would move Dach and Newhook to 3rd line role.
Cc-Suzuki-Slaf
Laine- LHC-Demidov
Newhook- Beck-Dach
Anderson-Kapanen-Heineman
Gallagher
LHC could be someone like Duchene, Gourde, Mittelstadt, Frost, Namestnikov...
I am a big fan of Kapanen and Beck. But for us to expect them to immediately replace Evans minutes is unrealistic. If we lose Evans we will need to find a veteran replacement. I still believe Evans will be retained. He is too important to this team going forward.

Another thing I find puzzling is why people want to get rid of players we have drafted and developed? Shouldn’t we proud and excited to pay Evans for developing into an elite PKer? Instead we hope to replace with Beck / Kapanen who one day “might” develop into what Evans currently brings.

I wonder what kind of contract Ekblad gets. Not a huge fan of the player, especially with injury concerns, but I'd be lying if I said he wouldn't fit awesomely next to Hutson.

Patience....

I think that spot is for Reinbacher on his ELC, No need break the bank for Ekblad.

One thing you might see from some players is taking a year, or two deals to really capitalize on a contract.

So, the Habs might be able to get Ekblad and not really block anyone.

Then again, players might be worried about missing their big deal, getting hurt and/or playing bad and getting significantly less.

Saw something this morning that said Wash offered a 2nd rd pick for Evans. If they decide to trade him near the deadline the offers better increase in value or may as well keep him and try to resign him.
