Well you wouldn't get like for Evans anyways anyways, but he's a prospect with value you can trade when the time is right to go for when young talent is available.

I mean you're better off getting a prospect that fills a need instead, unless of course they undersell a better prospect.

Wouldn't make sense for us either. You can't possibly use both to full effect.

And Cole seems to be the Jordan to Lane's Eric. Remain to be seen who is Marc and Jared between Quinn and Lars.

I wonder if Quinn will do 4 years or turn pro after this one.

Could be because of his knee injury? I dint know.

If he's back tho, he's another 90+ point center, it's not worth it?
Nope. It’s not worth it - right now he’s a question mark. His production is at an all time low, and his motivation is at best questionable in a lot of games. 7 more years at 11.6 million per, plus giving up a lot of premium assets for a guy who seems to be mailing it in most nights and has issues with teammates isn’t a smart long or short term investment. Hutson will be due a major raise here shortly, and I don’t see why you’d ruin an excellently managed cap structure for magic beans.

You’re better off waiting and exploring the market around the draft/UFA to see what’s available.

I’m sure the Habs would be happy to throw money at upcoming UFA and Quartexx client Sam Bennett, who would suit the makeup and style of a second line center much better than Pettersson, plus would only cost you cap space.

Caufield - Suzuki - Slafkovsky
Demidov - Bennett - Laine
Heineman - Dach - Anderson
Newhook - Evans - Armia
Gallagher (*if he’s not bought out)

Hutson - Matheson
Guhle - Carrier
Xhekaj - _____

Sam Bennett will cost between 7 and 8M. He's a 40pts player, you believe it's a better option?

For what he costs, and what he brings to the team? Absolutely.

And if you’re going to compare production, this year they’re only separated by one point. I’d rather have the consistent, physical, second line guy. He adds more.

Bergevin was right about a couple things - of them was his quote: “there are players who get you to the playoffs and players who get you through the playoffs.”

Pettersson is the former and Bennett is the latter.

The measure of a player isn’t always in points. Bennett adds size, physicality, and a winning pedigree. He’s the kind of guy that wins the all out battles and grind of the playoffs. He opens up space for a kid like Demidov, and brings a no nonsense win at all costs mentality that we are desperately missing in our top 6.

If they want to, sure.

But more realistically, Chesley, Protas or Mateiko would be the targets from Washington's pool.

The rest is either out of reach, redundant or not that great.
Even if he didn't have his brother on the team the habs aren't getting Protas for Evans.

And I'm not saying get Hutson to get them all, I'm saying if you can get him you now have an asset you can trade to get a player who's in the NHL now. In a package, however I wouldn't trade him for Evans if I were Washington.

Erik Mateiko works as it's another big body in the prospect pool and not crushing it, so could be available.

yeah I agree with that, and its not like Bennett is a stone hand Dvorak kinda player either, he is very talented. If the cost is below Suzuki/Caufield/slaf contract, I'm open to it!

But! I am a huge Dach fan, and I would love to give him time with Demidov before giving up on him...I'm torn!

Bennett is not the type of guy you give 7-8m to. He had a lot of injuries since 19-20 season. He's a guy that play physical a lot and those guys tend to have more injuries in their 30s. I agree that he would be a fit for the team but if he goes ufa, he's gonna crack the bank, and I don't want the Habs to spend that much on a player with a good history of injuries. We have a lot of them already.

FWIW, Pierre Mcguire on Marinaro's podcast said you can forget Bennett going from 0 state taxes to a high tax market.
Honestly thank god, he's not worth 8M... he's playing on one of the best team in the league and can't hit 50 points.

Adam Boqvist on waivers could be worth a snag while Guhle is out
I haven't followed his game. The fact that he's on waivers after having such a high pedigree would make me think chances are he's another Kyle Clague and not Kovacevic.

But curious to hear what those that have been watching him think...

Warm body that provide some offence but struggle defensively.

Doesn't sound like what we need.

Another player I haven't watched (Fabbro) seems like he would have been a good pick up off of waivers though.

Probably, but Guhle is out, why not roll some dice ?
