The list of team USA players who stood out positively was IMO very small. Brady T, Guentzel, Larkin, Werenski, McAvoy. Slavin, Matthews a mixed bag. M Tkachuk incomplete.

It's a short tournament and they played a very defensive style. Known NHL producers like Eichel, Hughes, JT Miller struggled to get offense going. Cale Makar a clear top 3-5 player in the world had one point.

NJD arent giving up on J Hughes after this tournament, nor should the Rangers overreact on Fox. Just my 2 cents.

I have a tough time throwing Slavin in as a plus.

If you’re spending 90% of your shifts defending, then you aren’t defending very well.

Shocked at how bad Adam Fox was in the tournament. I wasn’t concerned before because I always told myself he just needed more support. He sucked while playing with maybe the best defense core in the tournament. Very very concerning and I think it’s justified to wonder where his career is really headed.

I guess where I'm at with many of these names, is, why are they better than just waiting and signing a UFA this summer? Maata would be a low-key really good signing. Jokiharu. Orlov (who I don't expect to get a long-term deal)

Also, looking at AFP's contract projections, Evan Bouchard is projected to get $10.5m. People are complaining about Fox's cap hit?

Luke Hughes on a long term deal is projected to be close to $8.9m. $8.9m!!!!
how can maata be low key.. you bring him up in every single post lmao.

Id love for that to happen. There would be crickets from the Trade Fox crowd after witnessing that atrocity.
Why would a random game in February change minds in trading Fox? The reasons to want to do that are deep, systemic ones. It's not done lightly.

I don't want him traded cause he got beat to a puck one time in November.

For the record, in my ideal world he would just play to his usual standards.

I think I know the answer to this, but have people ever actually watched Soucy and Ferraro play? They're absolutely terrible. Soucy can't handle playing sheltered third pair minutes with Vancouver and we want him playing with Fox.

Oleksiak, on the other hand, would be a good addition. Would have liked him as the guy coming back in the Kakko trade, even if the Rangers had to add more, which they surely would have.

Kraken also have McCann (28 yo, $5.5m) and Bjorkstrand (30 yo, $5.4m) that fit the description of winger upgrade with term (summer 26). Both are good players that can skate. Either packaged with Oleksiak would fit a NYR need. The "problem" is that the NYR have little of interest to trade back outside of Cuylle or maybe Schneider. The Kraken are well stocked with winger prospects, so the Berards or Othmanns carry little interest.

Slavin was fine. I wouldn't toss him in the category of being bad. He prevented shots and goals. You can say he was defending more so that's an issue, but would you rather have a Dman block, prevent goals and shots getting through, giving the other team more zone pressure because the play hasn't stopped, or a dman who gives up a really good scoring chance, but your goalie is able to bail you out and freeze the puck. Then you get off the rink and be like "I was only in my zone for 5 seconds..."

Because the difference would be astounding to anyone with eyes. This is a throwaway year for almost every Ranger. Everyone's production is down. It would be prudent to see how Fox looks next year, I think he'll rebound. It's not even like he's been bad, just not quite his usual standard of excellence.

J Hughes had a rough series but he flashed his stick handling and speed often so I think he will be just fine. I would 100% be open to a trade for Hughes.

So we're back to "threading the needle"...

Welcome to the late 90's fellas. It's going to be a bumpy and fruitless ride with no hope of prospects on the horizon, slim playoff chances, and early exits if they do make it.

You do realize that is exactly what the Capitals did this year? The Panthers two seasons ago needed help to even get in the playoffs. Wah wah wah!

I saw Fox's physical limitations. I actually admire how he tries to overcome them with his brain but against guys this good you can't just out think the physical. On 1 play I saw him racing back full speed and then turning around 30 feet from his goalie so that his skating would not be exposed. Problem is he has to give up so much space to do that. He rarely takes the body but that is probably a mixture of 2 things. 1 he is not as strong as some guys. Also when you take the body you have to start and stop. Each stop and start shows the lack of speed. Again he gives up space. I think he was taken off the PP early in the series because his shot is not a threat. He was just looking to move the puck. I like Fox for multiple reasons including that he is a local guy. With that said I think his trade value is now as low as it has been in 4 years. I would keep my eye on that NTC date. If he has not bounced back by that date then you have to consider selling before his value goes any lower. None of this is a slam on Fox as a person. I see him doing exactly what I would do if I was going against guys that were much faster and stronger. I admire that.

Man, Sam Bennett, for all his concerns with longevity and ability to stay healthy, is a highly effective player.
Really hard player to go against. I do not know his future but his coach must love having him on their second line behind Barkov.

He gave up a ton of quality though along with a lot of volume.

I don’t think it was really his fault mostly (Faber, whom I like a ton, was playing way too high) but it’s easy to look at the few notable plays he made and assume that’s how he played all game.

Canadas best flurries came with him out there. He can thank his goalie for bailing him out.

Its not like he's never played against good players before. These guys are the same guys he plays against in the NHL.

Fox this year sucks.

Fox of the past 5 years would have no problem wit these "high level players"

Vinny broke his finger

He's probably out for Buffalo, at the very least

Fox was horrible. That was disappointing to see.

He was not only terrible with the puck but his coverage was way off. It looked like he couldnt pivot quickly to one side as well. Favoring something. Leg/Knee.
