HF Habs: Trade Proposal Thread #89: 2024-2025 season part II

If I need to overpay for a center the name should be Robert Thomas
If young players like Thomas or Stützle come available, Habs should be all over them. Salary cap is going up by a lot and these Covid-era extensions could be major assets while 14-16 million salaries become general. Of course it will be almost impossible as young centers are the most coveted assets in the league. In HFBoards price starts with Hutson but in real life it's hardly ever what fans expect. At some point miserable teams need to let their young stars go. Meanwhile we sit and wait and listen to perennial shit teams lose their locker room and agents of talented youngsters push for a trade.

Forgot this is a trade proposal thread, not a place for a vague reflections of improbable if-situations. So here's one: Sidney Crosby for both Habs 25 1st round picks and Josh Anderson. Sid loves Habs, it runs in his blood and he can't fight it by trying to be a Penguins legend. He'll always play the second fiddle to Mario. But imagine the heights of his legacy if he made it here? Pittsburgh will honor his wish and we're in for a exciting playoff push.

  • They won't.
  • Crosby is not leaving the Penguins.

I have a question for you guys about our bottom 6 wingers.

Right now we have Armia, Heineman, Gallagher and Anderson.

Next season, Newhook will drop in the bottom 6 with Demidov taking his spots.

Also imo, Habs should resign Armia as he is a transformed players since his stint in the AHL and plays a big role on our PK and ate 5 vs 5.

Finally, I think Habs have interest in signing Olivier as a UFA this summer.

My question his : how do you think HuGo navigates through this and what you think would be the best outcome for the Habs for next season.

Sign Evans, let Dvorak walk, sign Armia, find a way out from under Gallagher's contract.

Dvorak could be traded at TDL ; Newhook then auditions for 3C - Heineman replaces Newhook on the top-6 for the remainder of the season. This might give an internal LH 3rd center option for next year.

If Newhook doesn’t pan out as 3C, using him as leverage in a trade for one this offseason should definitely be considered.

Signing Olivier only makes sense if one of Anderson/Gallagher is traded beforehand.

As for Armia, I would also consider renewing his contract if the price is right (2-3M AAV).

Caufield- Suzuki - Slafkovski/Demidov
Demidov/Slafkovski - Dach - Laine
Heineman - Newhook/3C - Armia/Anderson
Anderson/ELC - Evans - Olivier/Gallagher

Pending where the team is at the deadline, trade Armia or pretend he's a pickup for our run. Can always negotiate with him after the season. He's so inconsistent it's tough to commit to him moving forward. 1 year deal, no problem bringing him back.

Love me some Heine and imo, he's a bigger Lehkonen. Has a place on my team moving forward.

Newhook will be in the bottom 6 and that's perfect for him and us. Does he take over for Dvo, who gets tossed either at the deadline or after the season, remains to be seen.

Given their contracts, I don't see either Andy or Gally not being with us next year. he best thing to ever happen to Andy was having his role changed this year. Gally has one more year of being a 4th liner/13th man and then he'll either be bought out or LTIR.

They already traded a young player to improve the team a month ago. 🧐
They should say the only player that they never trade is Demidov. After that, every prospect have their own price. Bullshit, they won't trade a young player. They did it Barron and Harris recently.

I agree with almost everything. Though I think Armia is pretty consistent since last season's AHL stint. But he is what he is, a 3rd line winger with size and a solid PKer.

As for Newhook, I agree 3rd line is his spot but I don't see him having a spot either.

For me, the ideal bottom 6 going forward, starting next season is :

Heineman-Evans-Armia
Olivier-Beck-Anderson

If you think Beck is not ready, Newhook could take that spot temporarily. But all in all, I think Newhook is trade bait for us this summer.

Olivier but I think we can survive with both of them in the line-up right now.
Yeah I agree. A 4th line of Olivier-Beck-Anderson would be dynamite imo.

So next year I would love the following lines :

Slaf-Suzuki-Caufield
Demidov-Dach-Laine
Heineman-Evans-Armia
Olivier-Beck-Anderson
Gallagher

Use Newhook with other pieces to get help on the right side of D.

I don’t think they’ll sign both Armia and Olivier.

I see Armia pricing himself out of what Mtl will want to pay. Esp if he has a good 4 Nations showing.

So on the wing, Olivier and a rookie Beck or Kapanen in rotation. Won’t be popular here but it worked for Suzuki. (And maybe Dach)

Anderson newhook gally
Heineman Evans Olivier/Beck

Newhook being the bridge to Hage but I’d like to see a trade for a guy like ROR.

Good looking lineup. What's the cap hit of this group?

So much this guy
ndeed, Islanders defenseman Noah Dobson was seriously injured during Monday night's game against the Columbus Blue Jackets. This loss could have a significant impact on the team's performance in the coming weeks.

The way things are going, they’re more likely to add than subtract at the TDL.

Gallagher won’t be the 13th.

Maybe they find a trade partner, but they won’t put him in the press box. They won’t do him dirty like that - he’s still wears a letter.
