So we have just over 30 games left. Dach has been awful most of the year ( guy missed a year so no shocker ) but better since Christmas and even better the last half dozen games.

Realistic chance he will show by end of season he is our 2C and we don't need to get one in the off season ? Or way too early to guess ?

He didn't establish himself at all. If anything he just added enough doubts with his camp and the first half of this season to push any extension talks to next season. So if we can get a vet center to play 2C, Kirby should be settling as a winger.

If an opportunity arises in the offseason, they should take it. He was traded because he’s injury prone and inconsistent and he’s done nothing to dispel that since he’s been here. So if an upgrade is available, why not?

Right now he’s pencilled in as the centre between Laine and Demidov. I don’t think he’s good enough defensively to be the pivot between those two.

"He [David Savard] is not going anywhere. I'm going to be very clear about this, he's not going anywhere. That type of influence, from an older player who won the Stanley Cup, is very important. There's nothing the Canadiens can get [in a trade] that's going to be more valuable than David Savard staying with this team and these players until the end of the season." - Craig Button

means he will be gone Button nose is always wrong
I mean if someone offer a 1st and a prospect you have to take it. But that wont happen. A 1st by itself you might consider it. But at most i think teams will offer a 2nd and that will be late as only contending teams will offer it. So yeah i agree i dont think he is going anywhere

With the games being meaningful for our team, Dach's performance for the rest of the season would give us a good indication. Here is the thing, we can still search for a 2C this summer and keep Dach.

For all we know, Dach could be our Anderson replacement at RW. Yes, I know we got Beck, Kapanen, Hage, Roy who will knock on the door but Dach is in the NHL right now and the others who are developing will need to earn their spot. Just like how Heineman took Roy's spot. Our young assets need this message to be comprehended and so do some of our fans. The purpose of building a strong pool is to give options. Not to rush them and trade guys out so we "make room". We ran into that by trading Kova and having Barron continue to learn on the job.

I do like the idea of 3 strong lines. We are not there yet. We have the Suzuki line with the Dach development line and two strong bottom 6 lines who are mostly vets. The dynamics of this will change as those vets expire.

At the end of the day, can Dach improve on faceoffs? Is this something he gets better at as he gets older? This is an important part. If you don't have the puck, you are playing on your heels.

I have a question for you guys about our bottom 6 wingers.

Right now we have Armia, Heineman, Gallagher and Anderson.

Next season, Newhook will drop in the bottom 6 with Demidov taking his spots.

Also imo, Habs should resign Armia as he is a transformed players since his stint in the AHL and plays a big role on our PK and ate 5 vs 5.

Finally, I think Habs have interest in signing Olivier as a UFA this summer.

My question his : how do you think HuGo navigates through this and what you think would be the best outcome for the Habs for next season.
I would love a fourth Line like:
Olivier- Trent Frederic or Evans or Kapanen- Anderson

How is 20ish games that important? Who the f*** think 20 games is all it takes to develop a young players?

If Savard would be 29 or even 30 yeah sure. But he's going to be 35 next season. He's very close to be done. It's more than very possible his next contract will be a cap dump contract. It's possible that 20 games is all there is left in the tank. He was struggling big time at the beginning of the season when he was playing 18-19 minutes a game (not that much for a dman), I mean Hutson looks better with Matheson than he did with Savard. If KH extend Savard for more than 1 year at less than 3.5 millions then he has not been watching CH games this season and he is a clueless clown imo. Not sure how could anyone sane argue 20 games of lidership is worth more than a 2nd round pick that could be used to move up next draft. I'l be disapointed if Savard is still in Montreal past the TDL personally. I'll be outraged if we extend him for more than a year at a resonable aav. Makes no sense.

So next year I would love the following lines :

Slaf-Suzuki-Caufield
Demidov-Dach-Laine
Heineman-Evans-Armia
Olivier-Beck-Anderson
Gallagher

Use Newhook with other pieces to get help on the right side of D.
The problem signing Armia is that Gally, Anderson or Olivier had to be in turn the attacker # 13 and that it will create problems in the locker room. I prefer to let Armia go and let Kapanen play.

I prefer to trade Savard and Armia and Dvo and even Evans...
but only if THE PRICE IS RIGHT!

You'll get nothing for Newhook that can really help much not until Newhook proves more. You have a much better chance to get such help trading Struble along with the picks you could get for Savard and Armia.

I'd go with

Caufield - Suzuki - Salf
Laine - Dach - Demidov
Heineman - Savard - Newhook
Anderson - Kapanen / Beck - Gallagher
Some vet better than Pezz

You think Struble have bigger value than Newhook?

Obviously i mean why do people find the need to specify that? Obviously if the return for Savard is a 3rd round pick you pass and you keep him even if it means losing him for nothing next summer. CH should have no interest in any pick below the 2nd round as those picks don't have much trade value and we have too many picks already.

Along with picks you get at this TDL yes potentially depending on the value of our vets at the TDL (always hard to predict depend on the market). Newhook's value is inevitably lower than when we acquired him since he's now 24. Back then his value was very low first and high 2nd round pick. Today it's probably more like two low 2nd round picks at best. Newhook is having a pretty mediocre season his value is almost certainly not high at all.

I agree with this but only with Evans

This team doesnt need Dvorak Armia or Savard in the near future. As we saw for the last 2 years. Our defense is horrendous , the problem gotta be with the players at one point. Need to make changes. Carrier was a good move. Gotta fix the Savard and Matheson spot now.
