why now? because Primeau play very poorly in 1 game? Dont get me wrong, we lost the game because of him, but we have yet to establish a pattern this season for him.

Asset would be better use to upgrade other position then a backup G.
Take last years 1-10-1 back-to-back game record and turn it into 6-5, those 10-pts inch this team closer to a wildcard spot

Tbh I would explore a matheson trade before his value craters when Lane Hutson steals his offensive situations minutes away. 62 points is just such a huge outlier to the rest of his career. An extension would be bad news.

No need.. we aren't a playoff team, why would we use "any" of our assets to get a backup, when we have Dobes and Fowler in the wings? Monty is fine as our 1G, we can hope for a win.. Primeau can become our tank commander
This season is a complete failure unless young players get to play meaningful games into April

A playoff team is a team which qualifies for the playoffs … that’s it.

Matheson solid D. Teams usually looking for D as season goes on. Could it happen? What do you want in return?

Drum up interests now sure, but you'd need to wait and see if Hutson can last all season at the same rhythm.

Also: Matheson is playing a lot more minutes than Hutson, something else to consider before jumping the gun.

I agree that meaningful games late in the season is & should be the objective... But calling the season a complete failure if they fall short of that/are out of it earlier is very exaggerated imo

Overall progress from the U25 core is the most important thing. That can still occur even if we're out of it by March or February (though, unless we are further ravaged by injuries, overall progress from the core should keep us in the WC mix late in the year, so they may well go hand in hand)

Be deadline or summer before I move Matheson. But he would return nice value.

We sign a Rantanen, trade for Andersson and draft Hensler make for great off season.

I can see Dobes replacing Primeau as early as this year. He can be the backup for a couple of years while Fowler develops in the AHL and is ready to step up. Doves has shown more than Primeau has and I’m kind of done with Primeau at this point. If he’s not ready this year to be a full time NHLer, it’ll be his last year in Montreal.

This formulation implies Matheson has a very high value now, and it could "crater" later.

The value for a 62 point D at $4.875M is insane. Even if he drops to 45/50 points, teams know he has 60 in him if they need him for big minutes. His "crater" value will still be pretty high. So being a value maximizer, what insane price would you put on Mike today in order to manage smartly? No bait and switch, please.

And you know this after game 2…
No, he does not know this. He just wants to once again fail and draft high. Having a backup netminder who won't lose WINNABLE games would defeat his strategy.

You know that his drop is going to be to his career norms of 20-30 points without PP1 right? Then you're paying market price for a 20-30 point dman who is an adventure defensively.

Are they already looking to throw In the towel on Levi like we are on Barron?
Whatever the opposite of throwing in the towel is…that’s where they’re at with Levi. They have him in the NHL splitting starts instead of playing in the AHL because they view him as giving them too good of a chance to win to send down. He’s their 1B at 22 years old and probably ends up the 1A by Christmas. He’s been too good to be kept down.
