Habs or Avs are my bet. 80% Avs and 20% Habs.
I could see Crosby choosing a Canadian market for sure. Imagine adding him next summer…He’s a god damn robot statistically, 55% of expected goal when he’s on the ice 5v5 every season. Very impressive for a 36 y/o, most become PP specialist or role players at that point…the only player that age Id be ready to sign 3-5 years.

Curious to see our top 9 with Crosby starting next season. Where would you play him and with who?

Slaf / Suzuki / Demidov
Caufield / Crosby / Dach
Roy / Newhook / Beck

Yeah like most people hated on Markov and Subban, amirite ? Maybe.... Matheson just isn't that good, man, I don't know though. It may be a big conspiracy against Matheson, it makes sense.

He's said many times that he thinks Montréal is a special place for him and he grew up a fan, his dad was drafted by the Habs too.

The Avs are a contender for sure but he already has three cups, it's not really a Bourque kind of situation.

AVs doubt have the caproom

Depends on what Crosby is after. Money or a Cup. $141.3M earned in NHL salaries so far... Not including indorsements.

I don't think he is after money at age 38. Age 36 now but turns 37 in Aug. Next contract starts at 38. If he wants to join the Avs, they will make it happen. Hope it's the Habs but my gut tells me it's the Avs.

I never understood the need for some fans to shit on their own players, particularly when they're performing well. I get the Gally, Anderson etc. hate to some extent, even if it's wildly overdone most times. But hating on a native Montrealer who just put up more points than any D since Markov (62) and who lives, breathes and dies to be a Hab just baffles me. This is why we can't have nice things and many a player don't want to come to Montreal.

In addition to Necas who Hughes apparently contacted Carolina about, there are a few RFAs who could be good targets for our top six if they somehow are made available in Dawson Mercer, Kent Johnson and even Marchenko.

There's also a lot of other RFAs like Byfield, Beniers Harley, Seider, Raymond, Jarvis, Lindgren, Perfetti, Moser, Sillinger who need to be signed still so I wouldn't be surprised to see some more movement from teams closer to the cap and players made available through the summer once these guys start getting signed.

Markov?

Pas rapport lol he wasn't a puck transporter, turnovers/giveaways were never an issue for him.

Subban?

Is this another one of your jokes? He was regularly blasted for turning the puck over.

As for Matheson, no one calling him Scott Niedermayer…you just have a vendetta against him.

Dude is cheap and productive, I don't know what the issue is.

I don't have a vendetta against anyone, Matheson just plays stupid hockey and makes dozens of mistakes a game. Points or no points, it doesn't matter.

There was like 3 dudes who hated on Subban around here and a few dudes in the media, and lets be fair, the reason they hated on him wasn't becasue of his "turnovers".

Again, Subban was regularly criticized because he turned the puck over a lot. I agree there were other motives behind some of the hate he got, but his turnovers were often brought up\

Remember that turnover against the Avalanche in OT one year? I think we talked about it on this board for 2 months afterwards.

Regardless, I think you're exaggerating with Matheson...he's not nearly as "stupid" as you make him out to be.

But hey, hate on...

Or how about when the puck hit the linesmen and he stopped playing to give him shit, and the other team scored? There's plenty to talk about him when it comes to turnovers as well.

That was towards the end of his time and he was clearly injured, I guess he did get more hate towards the end, he was also pretty bad in his last year so it's normal that he'd get a bit more hate. During his prime years nobody hated on him for the average turnover he did, because the good far outweighed the bad.

Can't say the same thing about Matheson, not nearly the same thing. Matheson does a lot more bad than he does good, case in point his GF% being the worst on the team and him needing a 21 YO D to insulate him.

Im kind of day-dreaming about Laine today. His cap hit for what he brings is a little steep, so I would want them to retain or take back Anderson or Gally.

2 years to see what he has. If he earns it, we can re-up him relative to how he plays vs Dach and in line with the standards we have set (ie under Suzuki). Dach will be due in 2 years as well.

Gally + Habs top 10 protected 1st rd pick in 2025 + Harris + conditional 2nd 2026 (if Laine plays a total of 60 games) for Laine

2024/25

Slaf - Suzuki - Caufield
Newhook - Dach - Laine
Anderson - Dvorak - Roy

2025/26 (2026/27 salaries in parantheses)

Slaf (7.6)- Suzuki (7.875) - Caufield (7.85)
Demidov (ELC) - Dach (7.25)- Laine (7.25)
Newhook (2.9) - Beck (ELC) - Roy (2.9)

Hell of a balanced lineup with cap spread around the lineup. Anderson would come off after 26/27. Lot's of cap left for our D young studs.

It's time to spend some draft capital guys. Expensive for an experiment in Laine, but I'd run the risk.

Unless he signs for around league minimum he won't be going to Colorado. They over the cap now. Or they trade a star.

But not many people willing to pass on 10 million dollars

Imagine adding Demidov and Crosby in the same summer
I can see it!

Offer him 3 years at a discount he would take like maybe 8/year and watch him win his last Stanley Cup in his career with the Montreal Canadiens on his last contract year and then retires in a habs jersey!

And Demidov wins his first cup and wins the MVP.

As one one would say..

"Cool story bruh!" 😎
