You have to think Engstrom is available and Mailloux will be if Reinbacher comes back healthy. The priority is a 1RD right now and they have some pieces they can deal to get a high one, if one becomes available.

I would consider EP. When he's on, he's one of the very best players in the league who can do it all. I'm just not sure if there's space for both him and Laine in the locker room. They'd need to choose between the two.

EP is way too inconsistent for my liking. It's not just since last year that he's been checked out. His 2nd covid year was bizarre too.

He might have that erratic kovalev gene, except kovalev seemed to crave the big stage.

Better make damn sure that scale of cap allocation isn't invested in a relative dud.

That was Necas before he was what he is now. Even a lot of people on this board last summer didn't want him for some reason.
I wouldnt be surprised if they still send an offer with Necas in it.

Edit: Also, Necas is doing well this season, but EP has been the more consistent player by far. This is a perfect sell high buy low situation for Carolina.

CAR and NYR have the assets needed. We can't compete.
We can certainly compete if Vancouver wants picks and prospects. The Rangers will require Zibanejad to go the other way and that’s not enticing at all. I don’t think the Canes have the cap space for it.

The Habs easily have the room and the ammunition. Though I’m not sure of the fit. He’s pretty soft. You’d be adding him to Cole who is small, Laine who isn’t physical, Demidov who is slight. Talent-wise it would be quite sexy.

I don't see Vancouver wanting picks and prospects. They are going for it now. Miller isn't getting any younger.

The Habs can include roster players, but they're not likely the ones Vancouver would want unless Dach keeps going as this will be an off season deal.

The advantage the Habs have is they can take on the full contract and even take on a dud like Desharnais, or Hoglander.

As for the Canes they will almost certainly send Necas. He's slowed down considerably as he's at 0g 3a in his last 10 games. He's going to get paid close to what Pettersson is getting while being even more soft than Pettersson.

I don't know why Vancouver would do that. Rangers fans have been saying for a while (well before this slide) that zibanejad is cooked.
And Miller is 31 and probably not peaking in the next few years either. It would make sense if Rangers want/can sacrifice more and if Miller and Zibanejad agree. They both have NMCs.

Somewhere on earth in a hospital
Still need a few tweaks but we can make the playoffs next season if Demidov comes as advertised

Keep Evans, add another C and another RD. They don't have to be top-line pieces just solid above average reliable NHL guys
As much we are doing well in the last 6-7 games. This team is far to be a good playoff team. The second line is still atrocious in my opinion , if you can even call it that.

As for Evans im all in for keeping him but i wouldnt lock him as a long term player. He's shooting at high percentage and maybe he can be a 3rd center but we should keep the door open to perhaps put him in a bigger trade to find a 2nd center or a def

JT just seems like a tough guy to put up with but that's not JTs problem. He plays like a dog so he can be a dick if he wants
Not sure that's how it works but I was listening to a Vancouver podcast and one of the journalist covering the team said that Miller stepped away from the team for a while because the coach benched him for a period.

I don't think he's the type of guy that would fit in Habs culture. Nor that i think that he would want to play in MTL anyway.

After taking a look at what's available on RD, we really did the best we possibly could getting Carrier. Any RDs of interest with a bit of term left after this season (I am talking like 1 or 2 years) on teams that are likely sellers are either way too old, way too young, or have NTC/NMCs.

That's the origin of the locker room issues: JT Miller expect everyone to play like dogs and he appears to have anger management issues about it when people aren't up to his expectations.

What I read is that he stepped away because he blew his gasket in the locker room after a lost.

Jeeze, I'm amazed at how many people underrate Suzuki. He's more valuable to a team than a player like Petterson. The Proof is in HuGo making him their captain and their top paid player (before the Laine trade). Vancouver wants to trade Petterson.

But you're entitled to your opinion—we all are.
I’ve never noticed Petterson in a big game. Ever. I would avoid.
