If the Rangers dangle Braden Schneider, you take him and run. He would be a perfect fit here.

Was thinking that as well, but hard to imagine he'd be made available unless it was as a sweetener for taking Zibanejad...

Otherwise, why would they move one of the quality, cheap, cost controlled players when their issue is too many bloated long term vet contracts :dunno:

Do you guys think the habs will be in on Rantanen or marner at ufa July 1st next summer??
No.

I think either will be resigned by their respective teams. If not but some miracle, there are far more attractive cities with better tax rates that will be way more enticing then coming to a rebuilding Montreal team.

Dylan roobroeck is another prospect they might move to improve their team.

Braden Schneider is another.

DeAndre Miller might be worth the gamble depending on price.

Then there's obviously Panarin.

If Zibanejiad didn't have so many years left he could be an interesting buy low candidate
Is Schneider available ? I doubt it. He's a really good skater, a sort of right handed Guhle. He can even play his off side which is rare for a RH defenseman. The Rangers scouting staff loved him and Gorton moved up for him.

I don't see NYR ever making a trade with us, sadly. They seem pretty butthurt and petty over there.

I was expecting us to trade for a vet G, and still do, but I also acknowledge that there are few options out there, and what is available likely has a high price now. Many Gs have already been traded at this point. Dobes should see 5-6 games in January due to the schedule, and we can re-evaluate from there. The NHL is on break through mid-Feb, but the AHL is not, so I can see Dobes being sent back to the AHL and then coming back to ensure he sees enough rubber this year.

Carrier and Dobes might be the only major moves we make for a while. at the TDL, I think Savard and Dvorak are traded at the very least. Beck should get a call-up. I guess we go with Carrier, Matheson and Struble on the right side the rest of the way.

Buffalo is definitely one. He's probably doesn't have Toronto or Vancouver.

Buffalo, Winnipeg, Ottawa, Edmonton, Montreal & one more, maybe Columbus.
It’s more a comment on how players generally don’t want to play for Canadian teams.

Besides, plenty of players waive NMC when asked or if situations change for potential desirination teams. NMC is there to ensure player doesn’t get exiled to perennial losing team.

Who knows, maybe he likes what we are building here and wants to play with Hutson. Wishful thinking, but it isn't unrealistic. He would also get paid pretty well here considering we have lots of cap space.

Brooks reported a couple of weeks back Schneider is being shipped because he hasn’t developed as the team has hoped and given his youth + cost certainty (long term contract) he would be able to net NYR a useful asset forthe present

I agree, IMO Schneider is a modern day stay at home Dman and would fit nicely next to complement Hutson

If that's the case, I hope KH pursues him aggressively. Great fit on many levels

Montreal
such an interesting year ahead for the habs. If they end up in the 2nd WC or just out of it in no man's land, what's HuGo's strategy?
Let's say habs have the 12th and 17th picks? Package them and move up around 8 or 9 and target Desnoyers?
move the picks for a young 2C? Who's available, which team would even make that deal?
Demidov is here soon and could form a deadly 2nd line if Dach continues to work his way back.
Gally and Anderson look like guys who should be kept as habs climb out of rebuild imo.
I'd re-sign Evans...but trade Armia, Dvorak and Savard OR Matheson- if offers are reasonable .
Lots to consider.
