Isn't Carrier on IR? You can trade for players on IR?

But I guess that means Savard won't be extended.

Vancouver GM wants help for his D corp now, not next season. But Matheson might be too old for what Alvin is aiming for anyhow.

Yeah, you can trade for players on IR. Medical information just has to be cleared. You can't say a player is healthy then he arrives to his new team injured. Buffalo traded for Patrick Kane from Winnipeg when Kane was on LTIR. He was out the rest of that season.

There was an instance where Philadelphia waived a player and Montreal claimed him only to find he was injured (knee). You can't waive an injured player, so Montreal complained to the league, as did the player. NHL reversed the process, so he went back to Philadelphia.

Carrier has been cleared to play.

I thought Habs would be interested in Desharnais instead of Carrier. Maybe the price was too stiff for Desharnais or Habs did not had what Canucks wanted.

I always felt Both Dach and Newhook were wingers who can play center. Dach with his size/strength stands a better shot at being an effective center but it's not playing out like we would prefer.

If there was a trade to make, I'd consider one or both of Dach/Newhook. Don't hate the players but I just don't think they are the pieces we need. And my fear is they have very good seasons in the last year of their bridge deals and then get greedy and ask for a stupid contract based on one season because they worked harder. Then after the contract, they get complacent again. It's tracking that way anyway and you see this very often with many players. Not many are highly self motivated where their low points are not far off from their high points... regardless of contract status.
Newhook does not play complacently.

It’s true. I’d have been happy picking up Desharnais for the physical side of things but he’s definitively a bottom pairing or extra defenceman. Carrier can play top-4 if we need him to.
A Desharnais-Xhekaj combo would had been interesting to watch.

The difference is Desharnais plays roughly 15 minutes average TOI, Carrier is at 20.

Futa yesterday purposed a trade built around Caufield and other pieces for Pettersson? He suggested a 2nd and Savard as other pieces.
That makes 0 sense for the Canucks. They're not moving their star center for an undersized winger that brings significantly less production.

Personally and selfishly, I'd want Habs to get Desharnais, as well, for the third pair.

A monster sized RD (listed 6'7" and 226 lbs). Just imagine the kind of havoc him and Xhekaj can create on a pairing together.

Not to mention, Desharnais is also a Philippe Lecavalier client with Quartexx. 😉

Trade Freeze kicks in tonight at midnight. So anyone think Habs will make another move today right before the freeze?
Don't think so.
