Cozens...talented, inconsistent, frustrating, 7M a year for another 5-6 years?

Fans here can't even have patience for Kirby Dach at half the salary coming off a major injury.

How are y'all going to live with Cozens and his salary on the books for a half decade with his inconsistent play?

Thou shalt not covet thy neighbor's trash!
I agree with your comment about the fans but let's look at his track record. It reveals a little tidbit.

In 20-21 his record
Games-goals-assists - points
Sabres 41 13 9 13
Juniors 7 8 8 16

Okay he was playing against juniors whereas with the Sabres he was playing with men but

21-22
Sabres 79 13 25 38
WC 10 7 6 13

His stint with the national team gives him a booster and he overcomes whatever ails hockey players in Buffalo

22-23
Sabres 81 31 37 68

Next year he regresses again but again plays extremely well for the national team

23-24
Sabres 79 18 29 47
WC 10 9 2 11

I know it is a small sample size but every time he plays away from the Sabres he becomes a point a game player. Maybe he is another Eichel and Reinhart.

they are very comparable players. Kakko does not carry a significant premium over Newhook, if at all.
One of the good things about Kakko is that he is pretty much a known commodity at this point. He's a solid 3rd liner, so we aren't taking on a project. Big upgrade on Newhook, who is a below average but serviceable middle 6 player. Kakko is underrated for what he is because he isn't what he was drafted to be.

Yes, that's how good I think he is.
Dobson has more impact on the ice than 95% of forwards in the NHL , do you think Misa will be a 100 point forward?

They are only comparable in terms of production , they are nothing alike in terms of overall game , I'd much prefer a player like Kakko in the bottom 6 than newhook , much more responsible , more physical , much better possession and board game

Man, this can not be repeated enough. I can't believe how underappreciated this player is by many Hab fans.
He is by far the best player on the team , shot pass skating strength iQ , he does it all , in all directions and on both side of the ice, the second most complete player would be Laine right now , everybody else have pretty glaring holes to their game

I really hope the floodgates open tradewise soon

Could create the opportunity for the Habs to make a move, doesn't need to be a panic move but we could use solid NHL players at every position so improvements should be easy
Same here, I feel like a lot more teams are desperate than in past years. I doubt anything happens before the 20th but I'm sure after the 27th and early January we will see many moves, especially the Rags, Preds, Canucks, Sabres and hopefully us! Would be sick to acquire a top center

I’m assuming you are talking about NS. Not only the best player, the best all around skill set wise.

Yup , I don't think anybody else on the team could make that powerplay pass yesterday with 3 guys converging on him in the high slot outside of probably Laine
I know. The crazy think about Nick is his vision. Last year, I was at the Dome in Calgary sitting close to ice level in one of the end zones and he made a laser pass across the pk box thru a gaggle of sticks to CC that no one else would attempt. Right on the tape.

NS isn’t flashy, he’s just good, consistent, makes guys better, and really important durable. Dude never gets hurt. Can’t imagine this team without him.

I think we need help down the middle, high end help for this rebuild. The blueline can wait, we need goals, and size at the C position. Misa will fill that void. Bobby Orr wouldn't help this blueline, everyoe says Reinbacher is the next great thing so lets see what's up with our future allstar first?

You can't trade for a #1 C , or at least not in the city. Have to draft them. We f***ed up on Michkov, you can't pass up on a Misa level player even for Dobson, who will most certainly regress on this team anyways.

I'd do Newhook for a 3rd round pick, he's just getting in the way and has very little value at the NHL level. I'd be shocked if he fetched a 3rd

He has over twice as many points as Newhook despite playing 2-3 mins less a game, in non-offensive roles and averaging half the PP time per game. He also provides really good value defensively, of which Newhook adds none. Kakko has way more value than Newhook.

no way we trade our first if it's a top 3-5 pick, there is no way we should

The talent is too good , although this team is dumb enough to trade a Misa for Dobson
Well in the past 20 years we've had 6 top-5 picks, and feels like Dobson would've been better then who we picked in 3 if not 4 of those 6 years. The top of the draft always looks very shiny, but especially once you get past spot #2 it's often quite hit or miss.

anyone see this yesterday, it was stated that Nik Ehlers may have MTL as a preferred destinations as a UFA next summer. Reasoning behind it is Laine. They are real good friends and he sees or was told by Laine about fan reception.

Don't know much about him but he seems to be a 25ish goal, 50-60 point player year in year out as a Jets player.

Couple of questions

1- Is he a fit?
2-Would you tender an offer?

Like I said don't know the player besides what his stats say

He's more of a luxury than a need.
