I’m reading Dobson to the Habs and I’m liking what I’m reading. He could be our Shea Weber without being on the decline when we get him. He’s turning 25 and is a top-line dman.
I’m a Dobson fan but he’s about as anti of a Shea Weber player as you can get.

He’s not physical and doesn’t play with a mean streak. He’s big, but he uses his frame (mostly his reach and poke check) rarely. Very not good in his own end.

Terrific offensively, but I don’t see him as someone the Habs need to acquire, especially with the emergence of Hutson as the PP quarterback.

We need more of a Colton Parayko type, someone who can manhandle guys and jump into the play occasionally, make a good first pass, provide leadership and good defensive awareness.

I meant in the eating minutes and being stable sense. Weber didn’t play very mean for us either.

Agreed. I’d prefer Dobson all the same. Por que no los dos?

Is Newhook someone you can really build with? And what qualifies him to be a 3C, with many on here questioning his IQ? I like the speed game he brings but he’s not a very creative playmaker. And some have expressed concern about size in the bottom 6.

I’m not sure if or where he fits, although I do appreciate that Beck can use a mentor. Could that role not best filled by someone else who could be on the market by the summer? 💀
I can live with the late 23-24 version of him, we can find some use for him in a decent lineup. He's not on a terrible contract either, so he's not hurting us too bad cap wise. He's adequate depth, every team needs some of that. IMO, the true problem is being forced to use him in a bigger role than what he can handle, a la Lars Eller. Put him in the right chair and he's fine.

If I should bet, I would say we will sign Vladislav Namestnikov as UFA in the summer.
- he is 2C for Jets right now
- he is leftie
- client of Dan Milstein as well as Demidov
- fellow Russian who could help Demidov to settle in the NHL
- his father and uncle are former NHLers as well
- 12 NHL seasons under his belt 741 regular season GP, 57 playoff GP
- currently 8-10-18 in 33 GP, on pace for 45 points

I think Guhle has a strong chance of being that.

Cup lucky, yes got the breaks of Oilers and Pens. Not talking about the cup, just the quality of the centres. The group had skill, grit, character, competitiveness. It was a very good C group.

That year Damp had had 97, Muller 94, Lebeau (forgot him) 80 pts, Carbo 23 pts, then you had Dipetro, and Skrudland at various times.
That year Damphousse was Muller's LW. He moved to center when Muller left.

Yeah, but we need another Guhle who's right handed
I think we have that with Reinbacher at worst. I am expecting him to be better than Guhle (and by that I mean more offensive upside).

Overall yea I agree we are totally missing a top 4 RHD. If we can get someone (draft or trade) with more of an offensive punch that would be perfect balance. You can have Hutson/Reinbacher and Guhle/x where x drives the play from the back.

If Dobson is available, he’s our #1 target
Off course we should be very very interested. It always depends on the price and/or the kind of assets they prefer in a situation like that. I'm all for it if they are looking for picks.

For me, it's clear I don't trade Schaefer for him. Hagens I would hesitate a lot not because I doubt he will be a great top 6 centre but because I don't think having 2 small centres as the top 6 is a good idea.

But ultimately, I would trade any other draft spot for Dobson.

Not a sexy choice but a realistic one that could be a decent stopgap.

I would love Dobson but I think we would be better suited to trade for a guy like Andersson. The price would be lower and we still could draft a top 6 centre with our 1st pick.

Not a sexy choice but a realistic one that could be a decent stopgap.
I'm really not a fan of Nametsnikov. Doesn't produce much for a talented guy and is soft as butter.

I can see that actually. Not someone I'd be excited about, but someone you could, if the money and term is right, flip for a pick if it doesn't work out.

With Kakko's comments, his value should be pretty low. NYR are going to have to trade him, I think. While he hasn't lived up to the #2 overall status, he is a quality 3rd liner. He would be great next to Beck or Evans.

I am difficult. I would take both Parayko and Dobson. They would occupy different roles.
