The question is the Pens 1st and it's protection. unprotected means it's a no brainer. Protected is not so simple.
Agreed
I said Dach for Malkin and a 1st. I think you read it backwards. Obviously that's a protected 1st (as ALL teams do nowadays) that will likely be pushed to 2026. Hence the added premium of Malkin, who btw, I'd LOVE to see with the Habs and his dad said Malkin would love to play for. I'd even add a little to that trade from the Habs end, but not a premium asset.
Don't think it was obvious... Malkin + 1st is different than Malkin + protected 1st.
Hence my question of whether or not you would say no to Dach for a 1st, which seemed obviously quite silly but given the trade premise, left room for clarification.
I could see Malkin being open to Montreal... And boy would it be something to slot Demidov on his wing. Personally, I'd probably do Dach for Malkin straight up if that were the cost. It's a gamble and at his age, injury could turn it into a complete waste... But precisely because of our solid prospect depth and draft capital, I'd pull the trigger. Laine/Malkin as the vets with Slaf, Nick, CC & Demidov would be a pretty nice top 6 next year. Spend some $ or draft capital to bolster that 3rd line (Bennett?) to upgrade on Dvorak and our fwd group would be set both short and longer term
