Pens are NOT trading a top 5 pick for Dach. That would be crazy. If they were to dangle their 1st unprotected then yes, no brainer to make that deal and likely get two 1st in the top 10 in a deep draft but that's not happening.
Even if they protect it this year team will only get worse and they woudlnt be able to protect it again the year after

That's what everyone thought about the Flames pick after they traded Markstrom, Mangiapani, Hanafin, Tanev, Zadorov, etc. If the Pens get themselves from out of the bigger, veteran contracts, who knows where they'll be next year. Even if they don't make the playoffs, it could be a high teen pick which rarely moves the needle and far from a sure bet to be better than what Dach has already shown he can be.

On what planet is Dach still worth a top 1st rounder????

I mean there is potential there but still, The Pens would offer a 2nd and one of their roster players they are trying to get rid of at the most.

No pre-game thread yet so mods can remove this if it violates whatever rule.

Read in Le Journal that Slaf is "incertain" for tomorrow, Matheson is still getting treatments and Guhle not at practice and being evaluated on a daily basis.

"Patrik Laine collided with Justin Barron. Contact to his right knee, he returned to the bench for a few minutes.

It seems that it was only a small scare since he just jumped back on the ice." - Yanick Lévesque

Why do CLB want to get rid of Jiricek? Could it be that he has some red flags? Don't know if true but on Marinaro's pod some guy said he could have some off ice issues so that could be a reason.
There was already rumors last season that Jiricek was unhappy with the way Columbus was handling him. I remember some rumors of him asking to be traded too.

But unlike the media, Columbus is in no hurry to trade him.

Dach's trade value is in the toilet; there is no reason to trade him. I also doubt Newhook has more value than a 2nd. Pro scouting needs to be reevaluated and do a better job because we gave up pretty solid assets here and don't have a guaranteed 2nd line center from it. I'm not going to count the likes of Matheson/Laine/Monahan since we essentially got paid to take them on or had to take them on to make the trade work.
Fair point.
Adding to it, we're not at the point where we should be looking at gambles (Jiricek and the likes) anymore.
There's a reason those guys end up on the market, the majority of the time they don't pan out.
At this point we'll have to bite the bullet and pay up for a more proven commodity.

If that's their offer, they just won't get him.

No reason for the Habs to sell low on Dach. They'll just be patient with him.
A bit weird that Friedman brought his name up though.

I’d wager that it’s either Dubas doing his due diligence inquiring about a young player that’s struggling or Friedman looking for clicks. Unless it’s something out of left field, I don’t see much that the Habs would be interested in giving up a young center for. If Hughes is trading a guy like Dach for a short term fix, that goes against all the messaging we’ve received from him up to this point.

I've seen a new underperforming player mentioned in "trade talks" in the media almost every day in the last week. Those media "insiders" are bored, they are basically trying to force something to happen...

What would you guys think of a deal around:

Dach
Matheson

For

Zibanejad
Lindgren

I know Zibanejad is 31. Rangers fans seem to want to move on due to cap issues. The Habs could use a true #1 center. I feel even 31-35 Zibanejad could be pretty useful over those years and lock up the center spot with him and Suzuki.

Matheson, I feel Hutson can bring what he does. Matheson and Dach together would make basically what Zibanejad do and give them more roster players next year as they are mentioning Lindgren walking cap wise anyways.

The Rangers get some cap relief this year and get two roster players for next year.

The Habs get a more defensive big LD and lock up their center spot for a few years and focus on adding around it.

If picks could be involved and such whatever possibly to make it work. I just have been looking at centres and feel like Zibanejad could be a fit. I don’t see many impact centres that could be on the market currently.

There's no way we're fitting Zibanejad under the cap without some serious future headaches. At 31, It's a no thank you.
