  • Take a look at the players around him at his salary. He's not a good 2C and I believe he could've been a lot more than what he is if, as I said, he had a better work ethic.

With that said, he's within 500k of (Bolded are better players than him.) :
Joel Eriksson-Ek
Charlie Coyle
Yanni Gourde
Ryan Nugent-Hopkins
Bryan Rust
Evander Kane
J.T. Compher
Kyle Palmieri
Jared McCann
Ivan Barbashev

Anton Lundell
  • Mikael Granlund
Alex Wennberg
Dylan Strome
Ryan Strome
Joel Farabee
Drake Batherson
Conor Garland
Jordan Eberle
Alex Tuch
Blake Coleman
Vladimir Tarasenko
Pavel Zacha
Ilya Mikheyev
Mikael Backlund
Ryan O'reilly
Michael Bunting
Brandon Saad
Nick Foligno
Mason Marchment
Arturri Lekhonne

Christian Dvorak
Filip Chytil
Sam Bennett

He has fair middle 6 forward tweener value. I think it's your conception of what a middle 6 player should be paid that is erroneous.
KK is, in your words:
  • not a good 2nd line center
  • has a poor work ethic
  • can be compared to other guys paid more than they are worth (eg Dvorak)
It makes no sense to give up assets for this contract without retention. I'm not even sure I would take him on waivers.

As for the proper conception of a value contract, I submit that your conception of what a $4.875M defenceman must provide is unrealistic.

No, 100% stupid trade. Habs don't need winger. They need a top rd and 2c and get ride of Matheson so Guhle can switch to his natural side
"get rid of" --

What would be an adequate return for Matheson in your opinion? One that makes us a better team, not a worse team. If your goal is to intentionally tank, then please specify that.

Have you seen who the canes coach is?

KK would not get any icetime with poor work ethic.

Montreal
Batherson is a beast , plays good on both end of the ice

CC-Suzuki-Batherson
Slaf-Dach-Laine

That's a real top 6

That doesn't make it a need and this trade would make the team worse because the Habs are losing their defensive rock.

Having LDs doesn't mean you have good LDs. It also doesn't mean you have Ds that are solid defensively.

Did you miss the part of " top rd" and "Guhle on his natural side, the spot taken by Matheson?. I don't care about the value of Matheson and what he can fetch. The guy is not part of the near futur and only take the spot of better, younger player (Hutson on the pp and Guhle at ld)

I wonder if Edm would risk making an aggressive move to restructure their cap situation by moving Bouchard in the deal...

If they pay him 10-11+, on top of the McD/Drai deals, with their brutal prospect & U25 assets, low draft capital & aging roster, they might well put a nail in the coffin of McD winning a cup...

Who is CBJ offering up? Jiricek + Kent Johnson ? Would Stanley pull the trigger on a such a deal?

Something like that... Maybe Sillinger + Pick/Olivier if the Jackets won't budge on KJ :dunno:

Though Edm wouldn't want to completely blow up this season and Jiricek' not likely giving them much this year, so I'd imagine Fabbro (or Provorov if Oilers don't prioritize RD) also has to be in it.

Could also see Oilers include Kane, both to get his cap off next year's books and b/C Jackets might see value in him both this season and as a possible retention for premium trade chip to use later on. Skinner's another piece like that.

Definitely some options that could work well for both sides assuming Waddell sees Bouchard as worth the long term commitment to be his 1RD for next 7-8 years

Guhle is now playing the left side and Matheson is playing the right side. They made the change a few games ago and will continue for the foreseeable future.

Yes, since Buffalo, and Guhle is playing better. But Matheson playing on his off side is a disaster in waiting. The guy already have a hard time playing his natural side. Shopping for a rd is essential

I think we should target Braden Schneider with the Rangers. 23 years old, good size, physical, strong defensively. Loved him in junior with Guhle. Currently stuck behind Trouba/Fox and playing about 16/17mins per night though I think he's ready for the top-4.

Rangers are in win-now mode with Kreider/Panarin/Zibanejad/Trochek in the later stages of their career. Things are pretty dicey for them at LD and Chytil can't seem to stay healthy. They've also got Mancini (another big, young, defensive RD) ready to fill in on the bottom pairing, potentially making Schneider expendable.

Is there a deal to be made around Matheson and Schneider?

They need Schneider to replace Trouba.

They definitely should. Bouchard is worth nowhere near that amount as everyone would quickly find out the moment he's no longer McDavid's #1 d-man. The only problem is it does create a hole that Jiricek wouldn't be filling right away.

I’m not trading Mailloux until he’s played at least 2 full NHL years. Too much potential there to trade now, especially after the “hard” years of development after drafting him.
And what’s your impression of Jiricek if you won’t move Mailloux for him?

Unless HuGo believe his gaffes are due to a lack of hockey sense that is not correctable they definitely should give him the 2 full years to develop.

So a top RD for Matheson? I'd listen if one is available. But you said 'get rid of' - does not sound like you are angling for a value for value deal; if you think Matheson's value is low, then who would give anything good back? I mean if you thought as Caufield for Luke Hughes deal were desirable, would you call that 'getting rid of Caufield'?

And to just give Matheson away is negative because he is better than Struble, Xhekaj, Barron and Mailloux.
