This team isn’t ready to do shit.
Lack of skills, size, smarts, experience, leadership, toughness.
This team is also without a real #1 goalie, a 2nd line centre, a shutdown centre, a top pairing dmen capable of playing 24 minutes of physical hockey.

We are not beating the top 16 teams in a 7 games playoff series this year and next year most likely.

Trade Matheson, Savard as well as Dvorak and Armia if you can. I think Gallagher might interest a few teams.

Go for a top 5 pick this year, cross your fingers that the Calgary pick is a good one and add more 1st round picks. There are some big guys with talents in the draft.

Allan Walsh clients are sus avoid.

Focus on acquiring a top pairing Dmen and dw about others teams failed prospects.

B's turned it around with H.Lindholm, Panthers with Forsling.

Redenbacher or Hage or Beck + 1st

That’s what I suspect CBJ will ask for, and some team will cough up an equivalent
Someone who's not able to beat Jake Christiansen for a lineup spot will not return that no. He's in the same tier as Reinbacher at this point

They're not going to get half of that.
Looking at recent top-15 picks who were traded - the return will be either a recent draft pick in around the same selection point (6OA) or an young NHLer

McGroarty return was a similar pick selection from a year later (14OA - Jager)

Gauthier net a young NHL D in Drysdale

I can see the Preds offering up L’Hereux + 1st (similar to Beck +1st)

There's no way anyone offers that. A player in a similar situation without a first will be it or a first with a lower tier player yes.

Just to be clear, Jiricek isn't worth his draft stock anymore.

He's not going to push the Habs to anything as the team isn't at that point.

Maybe the players learn something from him, but the Habs aren't at that point to trade for a vet who's probably retiring in 2nd a half years.

To trade for that is. Paying assets. Signing a player that's still effective is different as you're basically adding the player for "free"
He hauled the Pens to a 9th place last year. He can haul us to the POs.

I'm a huge Roy fan but don't think he'll get much of a chance with us. The skating, compete, and consistency is just not enough. And despite his production, Mailloux's game worries me a lot. I genuinely hope we don't hesitate to trade prospects like them while they still have good value. One of the many mistakes that Bergevin made was holding onto prospects and young players for way too long until their value completely tanked.

Even if he pans out, I think Roy would be a top 6 player on a team with a superstar center in the mold of Mackinnon, not the Habs that will need to depend on better depth with more complete players. As for Mailloux, he's not going to be the PP1 guy with us since we have Hutson. We need more reliable defensive players and Guhle/Reinbacher getting injured frequently doesn't bode well.

I would trade Reinbacher for Jiricek

The trade is 1 for 1
I would not, Jiricek should be better offensively than Reinbacher but not as good defensively. And if PP1 minutes go to Hutson anyways I think Jiricek will lose part of his impact. I think Reinbacher has overall a higher hockey IQ than Jiricek but that s just me. Similar type of prospect tier though of course.

Bedard heaped loads of appreciation and flattery upon Roy for how well he processed the game and complemented Bedard when Team Canada won the IIHF junior championship in 2023.

Hawks chose to go with a D as their first pick in this past summer’s draft rather than snag a forward to pair with Bedard.

If the Habs were to want to sound the market about Roy, maybe there’d be a compelling pitch to be made to the Hawks.

It's a wash, I'd only do it because Reinbacher's numerous knee injuries, but it only gives us another defensive liability on our backend. We already have plenty of those so If I'd trade Reinbacher, I'm more looking for what we missed the past 2 drafts: A power forward.

I was thinking the same thing.

Hope we don’t do this though. I think Roy can be great here.

He's not going to push the Habs to anything as the team isn't at that point.

To start, I'm saying Crosby won't be traded to Montreal. The guy wants to win, so if he's moved, he'll choose to go to a team he can win with. He's too competitive to go to a rebuilding team, even if Montreal is his childhood team. If he sticks around a rebuilding team, he'll stay in Pittsburgh.

That being said, acquiring Crosby would definitely push Habs closer to the playoffs. That's the kind of impact a player like him has even at his age. And he alone changes the composition of the line-up.

Maybe the players learn something from him, but the Habs aren't at that point to trade for a vet who's probably retiring in 2nd a half years.

It's not a maybe, they will absolutely learn from him. And what he will be able to instill will have an impact and will endure.

I don't disagree with you when you say Montreal isn't at that point yet. But in this hypothetical, if Sidney effin' Crosby is someone who's willing to waive his clause to come to Montreal, you make an exception.

If Mesar had not been injured and continued his solid start to the AHL season - that would’ve been an asset w 1st rounder to dangle towards acquiring Jiricek.

Not sure what Mesar’s present market value is…
the same (prior to injury), less?
