Trade Proposal Thread #88: 2024-25 Season

If the goal of this organization is to be in the mix and be more competitive, they need to get a 2C. Lots of focus on top 4RD, which I think is also an area of need, but one that can be address later. But Evans needs to get back into his 3C role and Dach is still far from being able to securing that spot.

I’d be interested to see where Jiricek was on the Habs’ draft board. If he was 2nd or 3rd behind Slaf, then I could see why they’d have a conversation about Reinbacher who is now 2 years behind because of his injury.

It hasn’t been smooth sailing for either prospect. Both have had knee surgeries.

I was never high on Jiricek, so I wouldn’t bother, but I recall others here had him very high on their lists. What if HuGo has the same opinion?

Wouldn’t it be something if the Habs were somehow able to get their hands on Crosby for Dach + 1st… taking on full AAV

I will now wake up from dream state…

It would make a lot of money for Molson, but trading for Crosby is pretty much pointless. Signing him, sure.

Kris Letang, if the Habs trade for any of those 3 players is the likely one.

He should be cheaper and the pens are likely retaining if he's being shipped out.

He trains/practices with the Habs in Brossard pretty much every season.

He's from the area.

He's a right hand d.

He's a veteran and he's won 3 cups.

As much as he wants to win, I can see him rather being closer to "home" than going for it again.

Depending on how much the pens retain, he's not costing a lot to acquire.

That's if he wants to leave, which I imagine all 3 stay at this point.

Won't be resigning Evans....when u have Beck Kapanen and Davidson that can play the same role for way cheaper.

They want to really push for the playoffs next year, you don't do that with Beck Kapanen as the centers in the bottom 6 at this point in their careers.

Davidson has barely played center in the WHL, and none in the AHL.

What about this season? 3pts out…

I know Nemec was not high on Habs list.

Next year? 19 games in....................and Laine coming back soon.

Way too soon to mail it in yet, for me..................in the mix means just that.
We are trying to improve and win, no doubt in my mind.

we're in a great spot. Even if we try to win, the odds of playoffs are low. In the mix to me just means staying in the wildcard race for as long as possible. 19 games in (can't believe nearly 1/4 of the season is over) is way too soon to throw in the towel.

Would we have an interest of moving a piece (a LD) for Jiricek? Would he be an upgrade over Barron?

I think the organization would happily re-sign Evans, and I hope he's willing to. Perfect bottom 6 center and his contract shouldn't breach $2.5 mil a year.

It's more likely that he doesn't re-sign with us than the other way around, I could think of quite a few playoffs teams that would love to add an Evans.

Pointless? How so?

As in Crosby won’t waive?
He's not going to push the Habs to anything as the team isn't at that point.

Maybe the players learn something from him, but the Habs aren't at that point to trade for a vet who's probably retiring in 2nd a half years.

To trade for that is. Paying assets. Signing a player that's still effective is different as you're basically adding the player for "free"

How about the playoffs, which they presently sit 3pts out of or better yet 3rd spot in the division which they’re 5pts out of

Crosby effect I’d say would be good for 6-8pts min

That's more of an indication of how much the division sucks.

If you're looking at this team and going "wow, if they add a 37 year-old Crosby, imagine what they could do" you're delusional.

Now, if for some reason it wouldn't cost a lot, then sure, but this prospect pool still needs some quality pieced and 1st round picks are how you get that, so I'd much rather keep the 1sts for now and go from there.

I'd love to see Crosby in a Habs jersey, though, but it's just not practical.

If the Habs can dump Newhook, Barron/Struble, RHP, Farrell and a 2nd, or some 3rds, hell f***ing yeah.

I only say Letang might be the one because I imagine he isn't going to cost as much as Crosby (Or Malkin)

Letang wants to be here but he’s already 37, has a $6.1 AAV until age 41. 😳

Unless the Pens retain and maybe take an Anderson in return and thereby reduce the Habs’ exposure to say $2M AAV, then I can’t make sense of it.

As I stated before Dach + 1st

I get people want Dach out, but that 1st is a 1st the Habs still need to add to their pool.

Trading for Crosby, or anyone in a similar spot is pretty pointless if you're giving up good assets. That's trying to accelerate the rebuild again which will just shorten the duration of competitiveness before the Habs have to rebuild again.
