Ya, I have test driven so many cars this year, and I just can't get the G70 off of my brain, so f*** it. I drove the Gv70 and liked it. I just have no use for an SUV as much as I like some of the sporty ones like the 6-cylinder Gv70 and the Sq5. It's funny I was dead set on getting a 21+ Lexus because I love the back end and the reliability has always been top tier. After reading more and more about the new ones, I decided to stop looking at Lexus's. Besides, I'd want an IS350, but you can't find any of them. I can find some Is500's but just too much, imo, when you can get something better for similar or even less

Need an SUV or wagon unfortunately. The SQ8 is really nice. RS6 would be ideal but too pricey for me.

If I could buy a sedan I’d be trying to find a CT5 Blackwing and learning stick to drive it manual.

Car talk can be ended.

Anyone watch the new Dune premiere on HBO? Was alright but I really am not a fan of the Brian Herbert stuff. Too schlocky.

I like the blackwing as well; too pricey for me as well. I find all those top ends to be awesome—the RS, Blackwing, M, etc. It would be awesome to have one, but it is just so unnecessary. Where I live, there are so many speed bumps and speed cameras. It feels almost pointless to have the 360 hp I am about to have. I should just buy a 2018 Corolla and call it a day.

Didn't even hear about it, is it like a prequel series?

Yeah. 10,000 years before the events of the first novel. It’s about the rise of the Bene Gesserit.

I love Dune more than any other fictional series so I will devour it but it definitely feels a step below the recent movies.

There's a ridiculous amount of good tv on this month. Definitely have Dune Prophecy on my list but it might take some time to get to.

Absolutely.

Especially if you haven’t finished The Penguin. Legitimate masterpiece.

Life is short man. Something like the Blackwing wont even exist in 10 years. A six speed manual sedan with a supercharged V8 putting out 650+ HP. Thing of beauty.

Penguin ended up being everything I ever wanted and more.

Yes, they won't exist in 10 years, but driving one will just end up costing me my license, probably.

you have been paying close attention.

You do know that it is Religious laden...

Bene Gesserit is Jewish. And is roughly Clan of the Jesuit
In Arabic it is roughly Clan of the Peninsula!!! As in Saudi Arabia a Peninsula.

As soon as I saw it!!!....Bene is close to Banu.. Arabic for Children of. Or tribe/clan.

Did you watch the first movie.. Islamic messaging everywhere. And Christian messaging about a 'Prophet"..

At one time in the movie, the protagonist is referred to by the supporting desert tribe by an Arabic word that was close to messiah. One lady tells her companion, "we must be sure he is the madi..." Close to Mahdi.. Muslim for savior.

Mr. Villeneuve (adopted Daughter; Salomé) was really digging into Religion. Christianity/Islam and Arab culture.

By the way, So did George Lucas.. May the Force be with you.... Per his words: May God be with you

Yes the books’ main message revolves around the dangers of organized religions, messianic prophecy and so on. The parallels to real world religions are extremely intentional.

I always thought the BG were more like the Catholic Church to be honest but multiple interpretations are valid.

Not Villeneuve digging into it, that is from the original books. Lots of the terms, Herbert based directly on Arabic, and the Fremen language in general. In the movie they actually even moved away from that in doing the Fremen language, because the linguists they hired told them that language would have changed too much over the thousands of years to be so similar to Arabic. But there is clear inspiration there, and he also wrote these books at a time when the Islamic world was casting off the chains of colonialism, so he drew on that a lot for inspiration.

Cool, I will definitely give that a chance. I do love me some world-building and am willing to overlook some shortcomings if the atmosphere is created well. Got a bit of a backlog right now though because I've got a tonne of work to get done by the end of the month and still need to see the new season of Arcane...

Sounds like you love the V8 engine. With all three cars mentioned, they are very healthy-sounding beasts. Nothing stirs the soul like a thunderous V8...If you are looking for a monstrous V8 that goes like nothing else, take a look at the Dodge Durango Hellcat. I bought one for my wife a couple of years ago and she loves this thing. Build quality is surprisingly very good. No creeks and rattles. In fact, she had a SRT Dodge Durango for three years and then I traded it for this 2021 Durango Hellcat. If you love to laugh like a little kid and dust off practically anything that pulls up beside you, this is it. It will be discontinued after this year 2025.

Geez , you guys talking about these high end cars makes my Kona N seem like child's play.

I can't wait til the next time I buy a car. Hopefully I won't also be buying a house that year and can up my budget a bit.

All these cars are out of reach.

Have you guys ever tried the kia ev6 GT or the Hyundai ioniq 5 N? How would those compare to cars like the Durango hellcat or the Porsche Macan or the SQ5 (the cars mentioned in the last couple pages). I've been parking next to this ev6 GT and that thing reminds me of Porsche electric cars. So sleek. A neighbour of mine has the ioniq 5 N and it looks like an oversized retro 80s hot hatch and I think that's kinda cool.

I keep hearing great things. Was curious if anyone here has driven them and has opinions?

One of my contractors bought the Ioiniq 5n and I have been a passenger in it. 0-60 times is comparable to the DDHC, but its electric if you like that sort of thing. It does run out of steam where the 710hp DDHC does not. Its not it the same league so to say. But very impressive. The electric car fun wears off pretty fast, a few pulls 0-60 and the thrill is diminished, Nothing like a V8 screaming and supercharger whining as its tearing up the road.

710hp in a glorified minivan for people who don't want minivans (admittedly, I'm not a fan of 3 row SUVs so pardon the jab) is nuts... I don't really get the appeal, if I want a fun car, I'll get something that's designed from the top down to be that, not just triple the horsepower and call it a day.

To me, if you are getting a people hauler, go for luxury in the ride, not "fun", because you'll inevitably be making big sacrifices in "fun" going with a 3 row monster.

This is generally my thinking too.

Like a full sized extended GMC Yukon with 1,000hp wouldn't be my cup of tea. I'd rather get a 500hp car that's half the size, for example.

I'm admittedly not the target audience for either to be fair, I like a smooth luxury ride far more than the sporty stuff, I just need enough power that I don't worry about passing someone or getting up to speed.

Runs out of steam?

According to fastestlaps

Ev6 0-60: 3.1
Hellcat 0-60: 3.4

Ev6 0-100: 7.5
Hellcat 0-100: 8.9

Ev6 1/4 mile: 11.4 @ 121mph
Hellcat 1/4 mile: 11.7 @ 117mph

Ev6 lateral G: 0.92
Hellcat lateral G: 0.90

Ev6 u drag: 33.80
Hellcat u drag: 36.00

The hellcat does have a higher top speed, but it seems you have to be going well over 200km/h before the hellcat would have any type of advantage.

It seems to be ahead in terms of maybe a mile long airport runway style race, but otherwise, in town acceleration, or around the track handling and braking, seems to be the edge to the ev6 GT on paper over the Durango hellcat.

Like micklebot said, it's more of a "throw more power at a regular car" type of thing rather than something built for performance for the ground up.

I feel like a Toyota Sienna has enough power to pass someone or get up to speed.

Raise the bar a little bit and aim a little bit higher.

Looks like Lexus is your car. They have crazy luxury and great build quality, but don't ever seem to be pushing the boundaries of performance for most of their cars.

They don't seem to do an AMG or RS or M like the other luxury brands pushing turbo V8s with 600+ hp...but if you ask someone who wants a smooth luxurious ride, they will often go Lexus over those brands...they're all great cars, but they aim for different targets. The most about quality and least about performance of the major luxury brands would be Lexus.

Hate to open old wounds but......is there a spot that shows where the speed cameras are in Ottawa?
If you’re not using Waze, you should try it out…. Shows, and alerts you to all Speed and Red Light Cameras….
