Not a chance. Not trading a d with hockey IQ for one who's IQ is questionable. If Vincent thinks he may not have hockey sense then Barron and a small + is as high as they should go.

Visibly, Jiricek didn't like Vincent's comments about the Amazon effect. With Jiricek's refusal to continue to develop in the AHL, perhaps Vincent was right about Jiricek's attitude.

Darn nice of you.

13 months ago, Kirby was our best or second best player.

He just needs to get his timing back.
Dach was never better than Nick that's f***ing ridiculous. He also never was better than Monahan.

Jiricek sounds like another Barron,Newhook
Let's not waste time for another washed pick that can't even make the blue jackets roster
Compared to Barron, Jiricek is a monster physically. Even if he never pans out, he can still be a booming shot with big shoulders on the 3rd pairing, and he's a RD. He's a very good gamble IMO.

Xhekaj has all those qualifications except he isn't a RD and he may well be better defensively.

No point in sacrificing young core players.

Three year age difference. Let's get guys who czn play before Suzuki slows down.

I’m not sure Suzuki has much to do with it, but I’ll bite.

I see Trethewey as a terrific all around defenseman. His pass completion rate is somewhere north of 85 percent. He plays a physical game and punishes forwards, has a booming shot, excellent mobility. In short, I see him as a player that you can throw out there in any situation and he will be dependable. A very solid complement (eventually) to Hutson.

Jiricek can’t seem to crack the Columbus Blue Jackets blueline which should be an area of immediate concern. Why not? It’s not a coaching or management issue, he’s had multiple coaches and GM’s. So what’s going on, that we don’t know about as fans? They even went to far as to acquire Jordan Harris and Dante Fabbro rather than play Jiricek. I’m not sure that’s the guy that’s going to help this team moving forward, especially at a high cost of acquisition. He may or may not work out, but if he doesn’t, how does that help Suzuki?

I may be dead wrong, but I’d rather keep the assets I have during this rebuild, and build the foundation from the ground up with players I developed, than try to piecemeal things together spending assets on parts that may or may not workout.

My wishlist for the 2025 draft for the Habs is to take James Hagens first overall and acquire the number one Center they’ve missed for the last 3 decades, and then add Trethewey with the second first round pick they have.

I think that would set us up perfectly in the long term - in 3 years we’d have:

Caufield - Hagens - Slafkovsky
Demidov - Suzuki - Dach
Heineman - Beck - Hage
Tuch - Xhekaj - Thorpe

Hutson - Trethewey
Guhle - Reinbacher
Xhekaj - Mailloux

Fowler
Montembeault

Or some combination thereof… I see that as a lineup deep with talent, skating and that can play any style of hockey necessary to make a very long playoff run.

Just throwing it out there in case someone doesn't know, yes Jiricek is big, but he does not hit or play overly physical.

Good we can have two Xhekajs instead of one, how amazing is that?

Yes he does. He hasn't done it in the NHL because he is weak, and granted has lead feet too, but he 100% is a physical presence.

A quick Google search could've shown you quite a few situations where he steps up at the blue line and obliterates people.

Yes, he's a big body, and now and again can lay a big hit, but it's not his game. He lays less than 1 hit a game on average. He uses his size to defend and protect the puck, not to be punishing.

You're pretending he's the next Shea Weber.

Puck moving, big shot, big body. That's his MO.

For now. He can easily become more physical as his body mature which often take years for big guys.

You're using him not being ready for the NHL as an argument. By that account Florian Xhekaj would also be a non-physical presence. He has 100% shown he is a physical presence in lower leagues, even up to WC.

Yes, that's true. But it's incredibly rare for a player to go from not hitting to being a hitter.
He is a hitter lmao

It will sting to get him. RD is a position of lack for so many teams, several of them would be willing to trade some A prospects from another position + (C,W,LD) + picks to get him.

I just took a look around the league and these are teams that I think could pony up for him and outbid us unless we offer something big ourselves :

  1. Buffalo : They have one of the best prospect pools in the league and RD is their biggest weakness. They always have one of Dahlin/Byram/Power playing on their offside because of their lack of RD. Byram has already been said to keep an eye on him, he’s probably the odd-man out since as good as he is/might become, Dahlin/Power are clearly better than him. They have a lot of young promising forwards in their system (Kulich, Helenius, Ostlund, Roseben, Walhberg). They already have Thompson, Cozens. Peterka, Benson and Quinn in their top 6. Not much roster spot left for these youngsters knocking at the door but this is what happens when you’re bad for so long. They have all their picks for the future and a few extras and have been rumored to be on the lookout for a big trade already. I could see them consolidate their strength at F and LD to get that missing RD in Jiricek. Any combination of Byram, Helenius/Kulich/ + picks would be hard to beat on our side.
  2. Carolina : They just lost Pesce and Brent Burns might be in his last season. Carolina are one of the few teams that are successfully contending while having a strong prospect pool. Nikishin is their top prospect but he’s probably off limits since all 3 of their LD are now in their 30s (Slavin, Orlov and Gostisbehere). I could see them being interested by acquiring Jiricek and running a Nikishin-Jiricek top pair for the next decade to support their group of young forwards. I could see them offer a combination of Artamanov/Badinka/Nadeau/Morrow + 1st + 2nd or 3rd. They also signed Necas to a 2 year deal this summer with the intention of probably trading him down the line. And remember how few months ago the Jackets were apparently gonna trade the #4 pick for a package around Necas? I know you do because this board was losing it thinking the Canes were gonna steal Demidov from us. :scared: Thank god Necas didn’t agree to that 8 year extension with CBJ.
  3. Nashville : Another team with a good prospect pool and like Buffalo, they have some youngsters that are NHL ready that just don’t have a path to ice time in Nashville. Nashville also has 3 first and 2 2nd. They could look to consolidate their good prospects who they don’t have a spot for + any of those picks. A package of Molendyk/L’Heureux/Surin/Kemell + one or two 1st + 2nd would also be a strong offer to beat. And with Trotz saying he might switch gears to a rebuild soon if this group doesn’t pick it up, what better way to start the rebuild than draft a franchise center in this draft and pick up Jiricek on the side.
  4. Philly : Speaking of a team with 3 1st in this upcoming draft, here’s another one. Flyers also have 3 2nd. Not the strongest pool but that’s because a lot of them are already with the big team. They do have Drysdale/Bonk on the right side but I could see them look to either upgrade or get insurance on them. Drysdale is made of glass so far and Bonk is far from a sure thing since he’s only 19. They’ve been shopping Frost/Farabee already and with Luchanko looking like the real deal and them definitely drafting another top C in this upcoming draft, I could see them offer a package around Frost/Farabee/Brink/Drysdale/Bonk and some of their 3 1st and 3 2nd. I could see CBJ dealing with Philly if they want to get another RD back in their system (Drysdale or Bonk).
  5. Anaheim : Sick prospect pool, but RD the glaring hole like so many teams. Zegras? MacTavish? Zellweger/Gaucher+? Sennecke?
  6. San Jose : Same as Anaheim, see above. Nothing coming up on the right-side and a package of Musty/Mukhamadullin/Bystedt/Halttunen + could maybe get it done.
  7. Calgary : This is not hard Calgary, you can’t mess this up. Trade Andersson for a haul which you then flip that haul for Jiricek. You get younger at the RD position, start the tank and you keep your pick which is top 10 protected! Oh wait no we own your pick... yeah no Flames don’t worry you’re doing good, Keep Andersson, Jiricek is a headcase anyway! Think of that playoffs money!!
And I'm sure there's more, this is just the ones I think could put some really nice stuff on the table and not sweat it. I don't know, all it takes is one team to say "We have too many picks/prospects we don't have space for and a glaring hole at RD, let's consolidate and get him", and CBJ could get a haul for him.

In terms of assets, prospects/picks wise we can match/beat anyone, I just don't know if we want too. I just know Barron/Struble/Newhook/CAL 1st probably doesn't get it done.

No he is not. I've watched him play in the NHL, AHL and junior, and read numerous prospect reports along the way.

I'd take Buffalo, Carolina, and Nashville off the list.

Buffalo needs help now for getting into the playoffs somehow, they don't need another prospect that needs to be sheltered.

Canes Have Nikishin coming and are going for the cup so Jiricek would be in the AHL, if it did happen it would be a prospect swap

The Preds are flailing after going all in offseasn to make a big playoff splash this year, Jiricek doesn't fit that.

The rest of the teams listed are all rebuilding so it definitely makes sense for them to trade for Jiricek.

Personally I think Jiricek's knee injury has set him back in development, he never had the best skating style to begin with either. If he does get better as a player I think it will be one or two years from now.

I am willing to give Dach more time for sure. At the beginning of the Season I said give him 20 games to Come back maybe it will be more.
However, I would disagree with you that Dach is not soft. He has not shown that he can play Big at NHL level yet. He avoids board battles and does not really fight for the puck ...yet ?
Not saying it won't happen but right now I would not call him tough.

Sorry but that is just entirely untrue as he throws hits, fights for the puck on the boards and when he is on he is a tenacious forechecker, and plays with an edge........soft is the one criticism that can never be applied to Dach.

He is a skill player, you need to stop setting the standard of goon for his expected physicality. His skill game is entirely messed up right now and his confidence is in the toilet which usually will manifest itself in a demeanor that seems lazy when in fact it is mostly indecisiveness and hesitancy to trust his instincts.
