Only trade I see possible is unloading some vets, or trading a struggling player for another struggling player.

Competitive team won’t give the kind of solid asset, cost controlled and still young player we are looking for, since they need them themselves to fit under the cap, and sustain success long term.

Rebuilding teams are in the same situation as us and will want to keep the kind of assets we would like to acquire, while unloading the kind of assets we have too much off.

For Savard and Matheson I would see us getting some kind of value, but trading them now would expose our young defenseman even more. The rest we would have to give pick to get rid off.

Dach and Newhook might be the kind of player we deal for other struggling project, but what would be the point really.

Unless we trade picks and youth for some solid vet presence, but I don’t think we are there yet in our rebuild journey
Id like to think we could get Lehks value fir Newhook.. hes a decent player, just completely miscast on the Habs.

I could see Dach bring in a solid haul.. lots of SC teams need exactly a player like him as insurance to make a long run.

While i'm ok with using newhook in a trade, I think Dach just need more time. I just dont know if he's a C or W, but he's a top 6 for sure with size. I keep him unless you offer me a for sure 2C with similar size in return.

Jordan Greenway is UFA after this year and makes $3M which is a big chunk for a tweener more so 3rd liner. But he is huge, skates well and decent defensively and can hit. Could help the 3rd line or blender him to the 2nd.

I'm still wondering about Zegras.

Thing is Lehkonen had really strong defensive stats, he was known for being on the best forward 5v5 in his own zone. And Colorado had that need for their SC run.

Newhook is just not that kind of player. What kind of need would he fill for a contender? Middle six smallish C/W?

Furthermore, we "only" got Barron and a 2nd for Lek. So I could see us get at most a B prospect and 3rd for Newhook.

If we were to trade him, I would like to target a mid 20 top 4 defenseman but I doubt he has that kind of value. I feel like he is redundant in our top 6 if we draft another forward with our possibly top 5 pick this season.

I think the problem here is I'd bet there would be a few more teams with larger offers. He'd fit into a contending team's roster perfectly - age, contract, skillset.
Problem with contending teams is that their 1st has no value. CGY 1st will be a top 15 pick most likely.

Then you get two middle 6 still young winger in Roy and Newhook (which you can consider B level pieces). Contender most likely won't offer NHL ready A pieces.

So this leaves to the question are there contender willing to trade their A pieces prospect for Rasmus.

I'm not a big Tanev fan but I don't think we're going to be finding any long term/significant solutions on the trade market this early into the season. A good band-aid solution that holds us over until TDL/UFA is fine by me.

Haha wow I just saw that Tanev makes 3.5 million$ jfc
Dvorak or Armia would have to go the other way. Ideally Tanev+Gourde for Dvorak+Armia but I don't really see why Seattle does this.

I'd like to see a trade like Dach to WPG for their 1st and Lambert (type of thing). I think Lambert will be ready to go next year. is he a 2C? remains to be seen, but 1 thing is for sure - Dach is no Centre, good for spot fills (injury) but otherwise he is a winger.

I am sure nobody will agree with this, but I would do:

Roy, Newhook and CGY 1st for Rasmuss Andersson.
watch this trade be the difference btw CGY finishing 12th (Habs pick 12th) and 9th (Habs pick 30th)

In the trade I include CGY 1st, so it doesn't matters where CGY ends up since we won't have the pick anymore.

Unless you mean CGY trading Andersson would make them worse (independently of them trading him to us or another team), in which case I agree this is a concern.

ONLY way the cgy #1 goes is if KH gets a higher end player with term and no old

No way Hugues trade for Andersson during the season. It would happen during the summer when he can extend him immediately.

I think it's pretty clear they won't trade considerable future for an actual roster player without term on his contract.
I was all for getting Andersson before the draft when there were reports from insiders that he was available. Habs needed to fill that gaping hole on RD with a reliable vet.

But i'm not so sure that it's a good idea anymore. This season is pretty much already down the toilet so there's no reason to get him now and i'm pretty sure that he won't make it in Calgary past the next trade deadline. Too much demand for a top 4 RD.
Calgary had a good start but they lost 5 of their last 6 games. They're back to normal and probably gonna sell at the deadline.

Even if he makes it to the summer, unless Dach, Slaf, Newhook (and Laine when/if he returns) get back on track, there will be no rush to fix the D if the O is still a couple of years away from being ready.

Yes I’m talking about his special teams mins that’s shockingly included when I say he gets too much ice time especially on the pk. He will be on the second unit though for Hutson in time. The fact that he can catch almost any player in the league with his speed and able to start rushes shouldn’t be forgotten. People just focus on the negatives with him which yes there’s a lot. He’s just not used properly. He shouldn’t be our number 1. As a 2 or 3 he’s still a bargain. Teams will line up for him and if he’s traded he should get a good return because actual scouts and managers know his value. Not some guys on an internet chat board. 4.8mil annually for a 50-60 point d man. What an awful deal. The guy is averaging 1 turnover a game
No he's not and no evidence ever showed he was a bargain as a 2-3. He always was a 3rd pairing D.

PP minutes are what boosts his minutes, he plays nearly 4 minutes on the PP.

3.5 for one year isnt bad. Just a bit of a puzzle to fit him on the cap.

Gally is tied for 2nd for goals on the team,One of the guys that actually tries every game. not his fault he makes too much.

2 of his goals were fluke stolen goals from Mailloux and Hutson. The other 2 were against a rusty Jeremy Swayman. Good for him I guess but his recent “hot” streak isn’t the most convincing.

I feel like every hf habs fan is Leonardo DiCaprio, none of you want to have anything to do with anyone over 25.

Sorry, I don’t go to those Diddy freak shows.
