There is 20 million in salary cap tied between Gallagher, Anderson, Dvorak and Armia for 18 points. That is an issue with this team.
Send Kapanen down, trade Matheson for a good haul while taking a one year cap dump.

Can we just trade our roster for Winnipeg's? They got 12k to their game today.

Why would he trade his favorite human? not sure if you forgot but Matheson is the perfect person, his impact extends off the ice and their personal relationship goes back many years.
He would keep him because he is a 60+ pt defenseman AND wants to play for the Habs.

Can I introduce you to former Habs D-man Erik Gustafsson? Probably not because you'll bring up some BS about how it's not fair to compare. Getting 60 points as a d-man immediately puts the player beyond criticism and they will surely do it again. Never mind that neither Gustafsson nor Matheson broke 40 points before or after.

It's the Erik Karlsson debacle all over again. A player who is the main focal point of the team's offense (as a d-man) will suddenly score way less when half the offense is no longer funneled through them. Matheson should've been traded during the offseason when his value was highest, but he's still a good player so the return will be good even now.

Sure depending on what they want.

I've got some Canucks saying they're interested in Matheson also. Might be able to get a decent return even though he sucks hard atm.
Canucks won’t trade any key pieces I’m assuming. If so give me garland for Matheson straight up

I think you’re forgetting that he’s playing a role he’s not meant to be playing. He should not be near the league leaders in ice time year after year. It’s an unfair slot for him. There’s no clear number 1 d man on this team. He’s an amazing deal for the price and he should be playing max 20 mins a game. It would be moronic to trade him unless it’s a package for someone that’s a rock back there which is hard to find

Ya, the foxhole is running strong.

He's playing 15 minutes at even strength. Guhle and Hutson both play more. His ice time is mostly thr easy PP where he stands at the blue line without moving. He plays less than he ever did and has less
responsibilities than he ever did with the Habs and his play is at an all time worse.

Add to that that he never was particularly good even when used as a 3rd pairing D in his early career, why should we believe what you're saying?

Looks like our transition up the standings will be put on hold. It's still early and I expect this roster to rebound a bit but we are looking at a pick from 5-10 or 8-12 range. Previously expected 10-15 range pick but lowered it a bit after these last 3 games.

Let them figure it out and grow on the ice and lets draft another stud. Basically how this season will go

Who will we trade? Let it play out... there will be some phone calls but I doubt anything major happens from now till TDL. Maybe Hughes does something but I would put low odds on it.

The bad news : i overrated our team based on the arrival of Dach, Laine and Hutson and our youngs stud growing older and closer to their prime.

The reality : our depth is terriible. Dach, Newhook, Dvorak, Anderson, Gallagher... they are suppose to be quality depth but they are all playing at best as 4th liner caliber. Every defenseman except Matheson, Guhle and Hutson is at best a 6th D.

The good news : we already have our prime pieces. Our guys to play 1st line, 1st pair and top PP and our guys who will average 20+ min of icetime both on D and O.

Acquiring 2nd liner and #3-4D is doable with B assets such as prospects like Beck, Roy, Mailloux, late 1st, 2nd RD pick.

All of the deadwood is gone this summer and Gallagher and Anderson will be in a buy out position with 2 years left on their deal.

I think considering we already have elite talent but lacking real quality depth, there is no point in tanking. I think its time to go fishing for free agent and trade for established player.

In my opinion, we should build our bottom 6 around Dach as our 3C. (I think worst case scenario he will have a career and usgae like Eller.). Lets go big hunt for a real 50-60 points 2C. Lets go big hunt for a stable 3-4D. With the arrival of Laine and Reinbacher and Demidov. Depth will then fall into places.

We are realistically not that far and the solution can be acquired easier than with a top 5 picks and another terrible year of tanking. (Not advocating trading a lottery pick tho!)

Its all about quality depth in my opinion instead of having deadwood.

Newhook playing as a 50 points middle sixer, Dvorak as a 45 points two way C and Anderson as a 20 goal scorer would be an absolute game changer. They were acquired and signed with those expectations but f*** off they are turds.

That would be a magic trick of epic proportions if Hughes could make Armia and Dvo disappear. 😆

1-Draft a C with our 2025 1st pick.

2-Go head hunting for a top 4 RHD and big 3rd liner who can score using the followings :

Matheson, Dach, Newhook, Roy, Beck, Mailloux, Xhekaj, Calgary's/Florida 1st, Habs 2nd, Pens 2nd, habs 2026 1st.
