1-Draft a C with our 2025 1st pick.

How about :

Top-6 C : Demidov ?

Top-2 RHD : Matheson + Barron + 2025 MTL’s 1st (Unprotected) + 2026 MTL’s 1st for Dobson

3rd liner : Newhook + Primeau + 3rd for N. Roy + 5th

2025-2026 :

I Still think that Dach on a third line can be an effective physical RW (if he doesn’t improve his faceoff) and is a nice depth move (can move up/move C if injury) ( In a worst case scenario, i adore his first season with us, i have expect improvements this year)

How about :

Top-6 C : Demidov ?

Top-2 RHD : Matheson + Barron + 2025 MTL’s 1st (Unprotected) + 2026 MTL’s 1st for Dobson

3rd liner : Newhook + Primeau + 3rd for N. Roy + 5th

Hutson - Dobson
Guhle - Reinbacher/Mailloux
Struble - Savard (1 x 2.25M)

Would love Dobson and if they can understand that they need to rebuild, i’ll give a lot (but our first might be top 5)

I'm booting up the PS3

Caufield for Dobson straight up. Do they do it? Do we do it? Leading goalscorer for a 1st pair D.

Roy for Jiricek. Do they do it? Do we ? I think we should add a bit if we do.

Top 6 C : i'm not a fan of experimenting winger at center. At this point, i would put my money on Hage being our best prospect at center. Imo Demidov is a top line winger but who knows.

Top-2 RHD : Don't think Dobson will ever be disponible, even if NYI somehow decide to blow things up. he is still 24 years old. And to be honest, not sure he is the kind of player we need. For example, i would prefer a guy like McAvoy over Dobson. We desperately need to stabilize our D.

3rd liner : I would love Nicolas Roy but at this point i think he costs more than Newhook and a 3rd. Change the 3rd for an early 2nd and i think it's feasible.

Demidov hasn't played a game at center in 4 years.

Interesting proposals. I’m not sure Isles take Caufield with Eiserman in their ranks. And I’m not sure we can trade Caufield because he’s the only one scoring. But Dobson would fill a huge hole. Very interesting proposal

Nobody will trade a 1st pair RD with size for a unidimensional undersize goal scoring winger.

Dobson is NYI best player, they won’t move him

i think there is one player that fits the bill who might be disponible and it's Andersson. We should make sure to not lose him if he does. i don't care if we overpay for him. Top 4 RHD with experience is our biggest need going forward and it's too risky waiting on Reinbacher, Mailloux or any prospect we would pick this next draft. And it would take too much time.

We are not trading Cole guys.................geez without him, we would have what, 15 goals as a team??
Anyhow, I do however expect a move, somewhere later this month, when we get close to the quarter pole mark of 20 games or so..............

We'll need to win the lottery ticket for proud Long Island homeboy James Hagens to entice the Isles :sarcasm: . Dobson is a pipe dream that will never happen. No GM in their right mind (unless Uncle Lou has gone senile) will ever trade a 6'4 1st pairing RD that is barely entering his prime.

Uncle Lou is well past his sell/buy date and he still wouldn't trade Dobson.

The Isles could go full scorched earth and still have Dobson fit into a rebuild/retool. Despite what some people think around here with a rebuild taking 10 years to lower expectations for as long as possible, most rebuilding teams put a 3-5 year window on a rebuild which would still have him in his prime if they went that route.

Tanev would be a decent addition on the 4th line but it's not a long term or significant solution. Gourde is too small.

Even for a Norris D like Dobson? That's crazy.

Would you care to show your work on the claim that most teams have a 3-5 year rebuild window by listing the teams and the years you think the rebuild lasted?

What I find enticing with the possibility of Demidov at C is that he’s left-handed, a rarity in the Habs’ pipeline (Suzuki, Dach, Hage and Beck are all RHC). But I concur that it’d be a long shot since he hasn’t played that position in years.

If NYI wants to stay in no man’s land and avoid the rebuild a package based around the Habs’ 2025 1st could initiate, Andersson would be my next target. No 2025 top-10 involved if so (Habs then pick a LHC) rather a package starting with CGY’s 2025 1st and MTL’s 2026 1st instead.

I’d do the N. Roy trade if what it takes is swapping the Habs’ 2025 3rd for either their own or PIT’s 2nd.

Ya, the foxhole is running strong.

He's playing 15 minutes at even strength. Guhle and Hutson both play more. His ice time is mostly thr easy PP where he stands at the blue line without moving. He plays less than he ever did and has less
responsibilities than he ever did with the Habs and his play is at an all time worse.

Add to that that he never was particularly good even when used as a 3rd pairing D in his early career, why should we believe what you're saying?
Yes I’m talking about his special teams mins that’s shockingly included when I say he gets too much ice time especially on the pk. He will be on the second unit though for Hutson in time. The fact that he can catch almost any player in the league with his speed and able to start rushes shouldn’t be forgotten. People just focus on the negatives with him which yes there’s a lot. He’s just not used properly. He shouldn’t be our number 1. As a 2 or 3 he’s still a bargain. Teams will line up for him and if he’s traded he should get a good return because actual scouts and managers know his value. Not some guys on an internet chat board. 4.8mil annually for a 50-60 point d man. What an awful deal. The guy is averaging 1 turnover a game

Only trade I see possible is unloading some vets, or trading a struggling player for another struggling player.

Competitive team won’t give the kind of solid asset, cost controlled and still young player we are looking for, since they need them themselves to fit under the cap, and sustain success long term.

Rebuilding teams are in the same situation as us and will want to keep the kind of assets we would like to acquire, while unloading the kind of assets we have too much off.

For Savard and Matheson I would see us getting some kind of value, but trading them now would expose our young defenseman even more. The rest we would have to give pick to get rid off.

Dach and Newhook might be the kind of player we deal for other struggling project, but what would be the point really.

Unless we trade picks and youth for some solid vet presence, but I don’t think we are there yet in our rebuild journey

I'm not a big Tanev fan but I don't think we're going to be finding any long term/significant solutions on the trade market this early into the season. A good band-aid solution that holds us over until TDL/UFA is fine by me.

Haha wow I just saw that Tanev makes 3.5 million$ jfc

That would be a waste of time cause people will argue about it like Chicago was not tanking they were just bad or that team was not taking it got 80 points or that team was taking even though they made the playoffs or whatever. Tanking or not is a religious discussion at this point and it's pointless to discuss religion. Most successfull rebuild last between 4 and 7 years.

If those things are pointless and a waste of time to discuss, doesn't that also make the claim that most successful rebuilds last X years also pointless and based more on unsubstantiated belief then any actual study of what successful rebuilds looked like?
