In this example Matheson is more of a Jim Roberts
Jim Roberts was a 5th-6th D in the 60s for us and capped at 13 points. He then transitioned into a checking forward.

None of this changes the fact that some LHD can play the right side well, whether they are stars or not. for example (Habs only):
  • JC Tremblay
  • Savard
  • Lapointe
  • Engblom
  • Gorges
  • Spacek
  • Gonchar

Others cannot play the off-side:
  • Laperriere
  • P. Bouchard
  • Langway
  • Markov
  • Hamrlik
  • Matheson

Yes, well not all perspectives are so informed by recency bias.

This is the crux of why your takes are largely empty. Evaluating sport performance and team development can't be reduced to small, context ignorant assessments... It makes for lively sport talk and click-bait rants, but it has nothing to do with how that environment actually works.

Fyi Oilers lost opening night 8-1 last year. Same roster that went 7 games in the cup final. But sure, tell us more about your deep insights off of tonight's 8-2 score lol
Skinner was tragical, McDavid, injured in 37 sek. Also Columbus has very good defense and centers. Plus Evason is an experienced coach.

This team should still be at 5 points.

Trade Matheson, with retention, for a big haul and trade Savard as well.

Get bigger and tougher.

Cuylle be good offer sheet candidate. Similar to Broberg, just developing. Rangers in caphell. Solid third liner with size, give you 20 goals. Answers multiple Habs needs with one move.

I can't. Love Tkachuk but that is massive. Our first probably a Spence. Reinbacher will be an Adam Larsson. Dach is big, first liner. Too much

Figured it's too much. But probably the asking price if the Sens do trade Tkachuk. What scares me the most is the 4 years left then UFA.

From the 3 pieces, what do you take out? Our 1st?

Zegras is on his way to being a cap dump there's no way would I give up that 1st round pick for him.

If he can't turn it around in Anaheim the only trade we will see would be something like the both times Laine god traded. It's either 1 for 1 for another problem player, or they are adding a pick and getting a decent middle depth player.

I personally don't think he is worth any more than Newhook at this point in time.

Personally i have very little interest in Zegras
I don't think he fits this team in any sense, He has lots of talent but seems to decide when he wants to assert himself and other games he just floats around the ice.
If HuGo are going to make another decent sized move i would aim Higher than him.

Zegras also plays a softer game, people will think im out of my mind but i would rather just keep newhook

If it was a Newhook for Zegras 1/1 flip, I'd consider it. Both of these winger/center types are on the soft side where Zegras is a bit more skilled but Newhook works harder.

I don't think you'd get any Sens fans to agree with this offer, but if Reinbacher can indeed be a #1 RHD then yes its enough. If he's a top 4, then definitely not, IMO.

One guy on the main boards said it was very tempting. For whatever that is worth

Dunno, I just saw that he said Andersson was on the trade block.
Both him and Huberdeau are playing great hockey. You just have to watch a couple of Flames games. If I'm Conroy, I'm in no rush to trade anyone until I'm certain I can not give my fans and owner a playoff run. Then you hit off-season with probably 2 vets who are worth a lot still.

if we send 1st and 2nd round picks for another project like zegras im gonna lose my shit, you cant win by taking the losers off other teams and sending them high picks in the process while none of them work out, how many asssets have we used for Barron Newhook, and Dach, if none of these guys are a homerun, thats a whole lot of assets for absolutely nothing

They won’t trade for Zegras. You can’t have one of the worst defensive teams in hockey and add him and Laine to your lineup. You’re going to leak even more goals while not having enough talent to even come close to equaling offensively. Plus you’d just be acquiring a 3rd liner since that Top 6 spot belongs to Demidov next year.

Maybe I’m in a bad mood (probably are), but i find it obnoxious or an intellectual shortcut to identify one good player in an other team and sitting on the chair of: « Go get him, it’s so obvious! » You know what, it’s si obvious FOR MULTIPLE TEAMS, even the team with that said player. Like for Andersson, a first pair RD on a cheap contract in a team of young players (and a market who strigiles to sign players or ufa). The only + to trade him now is if they see their good start with a bad eye (going further from top 5). What is the message sent to your players with a record start? A lot of contending teams want a first pair RD with a cheap $ and do not care to pay and Utah will bid big. If he is traded, we did not miss the boat, we are half the ligue that missed it
