I wouldn't be surprised. By next year, he's likely not a top 9 fit. We have Laine, Caufield, Slafkovsky & Demidov as top 6 wingers next season. That puts Newhook on 3rd line.

I can't see him staying at center. He's a winger.
The more i watch him the more i think he might not be a NHL player on a contending team. He's one of those guys that don't fit anywhere. Not good enough offensively for the top 6. Not enough grit and or size for the bottom 6. Not that great defensively. Not physical. Not hard to play against. Outside of his speed i don't see much qualities making him a solid top 9 nhler on a cup contending team.

What do you figure Newhook could fetch in a trade? 💀

Trading Evans would be so stupid. The guy shoulders so much responsibility that people take for granted. Ask Suzuki if he wants the team to trade Evans lol. Evans is way too important for our bottom 6.
Seriously, We already have enough draft pick. We need more of it. We need more good vets with the Habs. We drafted twice in the first round in 2022 and 2024. We are going to draft twice again this year.

No need form more draft pick.

So Newhook, Dvo and Armia gone?

Slaf - Suzuki - Caufield
Laine - Dach - Demidov
Gallagher - Evans - Roy
Eineman - Kapanen - Anderson

We desperately need bottom 6 size and sandpaper
When Gally and Anderson contract end. Both Tuch and Florian should be NHL ready.

Hard to know. We can for sure recoup part of the picks. Would not be surprised his value is the same as Shaw when we traded him so low 2nd and low 3rd which is less than what we paid but his contract his good enough and he is young enough to still have value if KH decide to give up.

Draft picks can always be traded. More often than not when teams decide to rebuild and clean house they want draft picks in return of their players.

Calgary has slumped so wondering if Andersson may be a player that can be had. Cost of a good rental at TDL is a good prospect and a late 1st. Andersson is not a rental, is a RHD and better than good. Guessing Mailloux could be one of the pieces going back, but that's just a start.

Andersson is a UFA risk but if we sign him he can be top pair and certainly top 4 for next 6 years.

Then we have Guhle, Hutson and Andersson as 3 of the top 4 for years and they are the top 3. So we just need a no.4D RHD.

But at what cost to get him ? Mailloux. And if we are moving Xhekaj ( damn it ) then that's a good package isn't it ?

I also go back to Jordan Greenway. Problem there is he is UFA and makes $3M , would we want to extend a tweener W at $3M plus ? But he should help this year.

But both vets, big, good speed and can be physical.

Would like Andersson but contract wise I'm not sure it'll work out. If he had more years left on his deal I would be all for it, but 2 years?? We are not contending in those years and then we'll probably lose him because he's gonna wanna break the bank and cash in on his new deal.

All correct. We are in seeming meltdown and need stabilization, and so my suggestion. Ideally, if we are prepared to break the bank we wait until July 1 when he has a year left and so can be extended. But guessing teams contending will be all over him.

Not sure Dach is even a center. Tuch could make the Habs next season, too. Beck, too. We'll see how he does this year, but Beck's off to a good start in AHL. Tuch is a true physical beast.

Depending on how Beck does, and what our draft pick ends up being, he could be either a 2nd or 4th line center for us.

4th line: Tuch - Beck - Heineman is much closer to a 4th line we want. 3rd line: Dach - Evans - Anderson. 2nd line center is open. And, Gallagher is probably on 4th line with Heineman 13th forward. Then there's the potential for Roy to be ready, too - yet another winger.

I don't see Newhook taking that 2nd line center position, but it's the one that's open. The wings are much, much deeper by next season just with the addition of Demidov. Nevermind the potential of Tuch & Roy joining the team with Beck at center.

Yeah, he's going to move around a lot, I think. He's a stop gap top 6 right now. He's still young, so there's still potential for growth, but like Colorado as we continue to add more quality skill upfront (Demidov, Slafkovsky, Caufield, Laine maybe Martone :naughty:) he's an easy guy to walk away from.

We need to know if Dach is a C. Like yesterday. It's crazy he plays wing right now, we know he can play wing, put him back at C and let him simmer there. See if he's cut out for it.

Every time Dach's been at center he's been a disaster. He's pretty much unplayable there right now. If he starts getting some consistency in his game then maybe we can try him again. But, right now, he needs to settle back into playing hockey and getting his confidence going.

Why? What do we have to prove ? Are we trying to compete ? By all accounts, we're trying to be in the mix, and we're not even in the mix. What are we losing by having Dach struggle at C ? No second line ? We don't have one.

He was doing great last year in training camp.

Trevor Zegras......and I'm being serious.

If we look at last season and this season....they are really not far apart.
Newhook average 0.52pts per game
Zegras average 0.41pts per game
Both suffered from some injuries

They were both drafted in 2019, 7 spots apart, same age, about the same size

Of course because of Zegras' first 2 seasons, not talking one-on-one but we can easily afford to add picks/prospect.

He won’t be more effective before mid-season.

Trotz would be smart to start the rebuild right now, he could get a massive haul for the assets he just signed. We're talking 4-5-6 first rounders total.

5 Years down the road they'd have a team on the ups.

I'd be interested in Josi, Carrier, Forsberg, ROR, Sissons, Evangelista, Tomasino, Parssinen, , L'heureux, McCarron and Tommy Novak.

Then you get people to pay to drop terrible contracts on you and you're freaking golden.

I'm sure he wouldn't do it, though.
